NieR Replicant A Dog Astray is a search and rescue quest you can complete in your Village’s Shopping District while playing the video game published by Square Enix, assuming you wish to help an old man who is looking for Max, his dog.
NieR Replicant A Dog Astray is a Part One side-quest, and even though it can be confusing at first, by following this guide, you’ll be able to find the missing dog in just a couple of minutes.
So, first, let’s see how to start A Dog Astray, and then I’ll tell you where to find Max in NieR Replicant.
NieR Replicant A Dog Astray Quest Details
A Dog Astray is a quest that can be played after you reach Seafront.
This means that you’ll want to follow the story up to the point where you learn how to fish, and then you’ll be asked to catch a Shaman Fish.
To continue to the main quest, you’ll have to return to your Village with the Shaman Fish and pay a visit to Yonah or Popola (depending on what you decide).
On your way back, the moment you enter the Shopping District, you’ll see the old man in my image below.
Talk to him, and he’ll tell you that Max (aka his dog) is missing.
Obviously, your task is to find the dog.
Keep in mind that you want to complete this quest before talking to Popola when you return from the Manor because that’s when Part 2 in the game starts, and the quest giver disappears.
Where To Find Max For A Dog Astray Quest
Good, so now that you know how to begin this quest, it’s time to find the dog.
From the Shopping District, head north and go through the gate towards Northern Plains.
When you enter the said area, keep moving forward and exit the small canyon.
Right in front of you is a large bridge that leads to Junk Heap. That’s where you have to go, but instead of climbing the ladders while facing the bridge, look to the left.
The dog or Max (pictured below) is glowing, as you can see, and it’s close to the water.
One thing to keep in mind here is that the moment you examine Max, two large Shades spawn, so make sure you are ready to face them.
After you defeat the Shades, examine the missing dog, then you’ll have to go all the way back to the Shopping District.
Unfortunately, the old man is not there anymore, but his grandson will wait for you.
Talk to him, and you’ll find out what happened to the old man and also finish this quest.
For completing the NieR Replicant Remaster A Dog Astray quest, you’ll receive 1000 Gold. Sad story but easy money.
