NieR Replicant Fisherman’s Gambit Part 3: How To Get Rainbow Trout

Rainbow Trout is a NieR Replicant fish type and also a quest item needed to complete The Fisherman’s Gambit Part 3 side quest featured in Part One of the video game published by Square Enix.

NieR Replicant Fisherman’s Gambit Part 3 is the third part of the questline that will help you become a better fisherman, and it follows the same structure as Fisherman’s Gambit and The Fisherman’s Gambit Part 2, but instead of Sardines or Blowfish, you’ll need to catch Rainbow Trout.

So, to improve your NieR Replicant fishing skill, you’ll have to complete all quests in The Fisherman’s Gambit chain of side quests, and your third goal is to land 7 Rainbow Trout.

As such, below we will talk about the Rainbow Trout in NieR Replicant since they represent your goal for The Fisherman’s Gambit Part 3 side quest.

NieR Replicant Fisherman’s Gambit Part 3 Quest Details

NieR Replicant Fisherman’s Gambit Part 3 is a side quest that becomes available in Seafront. Thus it’s best approached after you complete the previous part after you save the Prince of Facade.

Again, the quest giver is the same old man by the dock below.

Talk to him immediately after the previous quest, and he’ll ask you to catch some Rainbow Trout. Only 7 of them.

Best Rainbow Trout Bait

The good thing about fishing Rainbow Trout in NieR Replicant is that you don’t have to buy bait, so you can skip the Tackle Shop for this one.

For this type of fish, you will use the normal Lure which is obtained during the story from the old man above.

You may remember that the Lure in your inventory is the one you have used to catch the Shaman Fish.

And you will use it again to catch Trout.

The bad thing, however, is that you’ll have to do some legwork to get to the fishing spot.

Remaster Rainbow Trout Location

After you start the quest, exit Seafront and head towards Southern Plains.

Cross the plains, and then you’ll reach your Village area.

From here, you’ll want to head through the gate that takes you to Northern Plains.

When you exit the canyon, you’ll see the large bridge that allows you to access Junk Heap.

Below that bridge is a lake, and that is your fishing spot for the NieR Replicant Rainbow Trout. Just place yourself on the right side, as you can see in my image below.

This is basically the same location where you have to find Max, the missing dog for A Dog Astray side-quest.

How To Fish

Again, to catch Rainbow Trout in NieR Replicant, you’ll use the same fishing technique as before:

• While standing near the fishing spot, press O on your PlayStation controller
• Select the type of bait. For Rainbow Trout, you will want to use the Lure
• Once you cast your line, wait for the fish to bite, then press O again
• Move your left thumbstick in the direction opposite the fish’s current position to deplete its health bar (blue)
• When the health bar is fully depleted, you’ll land the fish

Keep in mind, though, that, unlike Sardines or Blowfish, the Rainbow Trout is harder to catch, so be patient.

Once you get seven Rainbow Trout, return to the quest giver, and in return, you won’t get any rewards, but you will do some training and unlock the next quest in line. This time you’ll need to catch  5 Bream.
