Diablo 4 The Way of the Three is a unique secret quest in the Kehjistan region, where you have to solve riddles written on the three plaques around the Unknown Altar within the Gates to Hell area.
By reading the three plaques and interacting with the Empty Altar, you can gather clues about what you must do to trigger D4 The Way of the Three quest.
However, the hints provided are pretty vague and seem to make little sense, making everything very confusing.
But don’t worry because we are here to help! In the following Diablo IV guide, we will explain how to solve the riddles within the Gates to Hell and how to complete The Way of the Three quest.
How To Start The Way of the Three Quest in Diablo 4
In order to trigger The Way of the Three in Diablo 4, you must light up a total of three statues, one for each Prime Evil: Diablo, Mephisto, and Baal.
To light up a Prime Evil statue, you must use the Cheer Emote from your Emote Wheel in front of it. Your progress will be displayed on the Empty Altar in the Gates to Hell.
When you’ve lit up all the Prime Evil Statues, you can interact with the Unknown Altar on the ground marked with a blue exclamation mark to initiate the quest.
So, to make things easier, we’ve marked every Prime Evil statue location on the custom map provided below.
However, if you need additional help finding these Prime Evil Statues, we will go over their locations following the same order as on the map above.
Statue #1: Diablo, Lord of Terror
The statue of Diablo, the Lord of Terror, can be found within the Shrine of Terror area of the Southern Expanse subregion. It is situated northeast of Gea Kul, and there is always a World Event happening in this area.
To reach the Shrine of Terror area from the Gea Kul waypoint, head northeast through the Central Plateau until you reach the location marked on the above map.
Once you get to the northern part of the Shrine of Terror, climb down the cliff to find Diablo’s statue.
Open the Emote Wheel by pressing Dpad Up (PS/Xbox) or E (PC). Perform the Cheer Emote in front of the statue to light up the fire in both of his hands.
Statue #2: Mephisto, Lord of Hatred
The Statue of Mephisto, Lord of Hatred, is located in the Southern Expanse, northwest of the Denshar waypoint.
Fast travel to the Denshar waypoint and leave the city using the northwest exit. Continue on the path until you find the destroyed statue of Mephisto on the right side.
It can be challenging to spot it at first, even more at night, since the statue’s head is the only remaining part and blends in with the surroundings.
As before, perform the Cheer Emote in front of the statue, and the eyes should light up blue if done correctly.
Statue #3: Baal, Lord of Destruction
The Statue of Baal, Lord of Destruction, can be found in the Altar of Ruin: Ritual Site, in the northwest of the Kehjistan region after you conquer the stronghold.
To conquer the Altar of Ruin Stronghold, you must retrieve the Keystones from the Elite Cultists and use them to unlock the Ritual Chamber.
Then, slay the Dark Cardinal Maldul boss and rekindle the Wanderer’s Shrine to conquer the Altar of Ruin Stronghold.
Now, make your way back to the Ritual Chamber (Altar of Ruin: Ritual Site), where you’ve slayed the Dark Cardinal Maldul to find Baal’s statue in the middle of the room.
Perform the Cheer Emote in front of the statue as before, and the sphere in his hand should light up.
How To Complete The Way of the Three Quest in Diablo IV
After you’ve lit up all three Prime Evil Statues, you can embark on The Way of the Three quest by interacting with the Unknown Altar within the Gates to Hell in the Caldeum subregion of Kehjistan.
We’ve marked the exact starting location of the quest on the map below.
Upon interacting with the Unknown Altar, enter the Mysterious Gateway and interact with the High Priest Corpse at the top of the stairs to reveal his spirit.
Speak with the High Priest Spirit to spawn the Communing Pillar to the east.
You’ll need to fight through multiple waves of demons to destroy the Communing Pillar. In the third wave, you’ll encounter several Elite enemies, so it’s wise to save your Ultimate ability for this phase.
Once all enemies are defeated, attack the Pillar one more time for its destruction and to finish The Way of the Three in Diablo 4.
Diablo 4 The Way of the Three Quest Rewards
The question on everybody’s lips is: what are the rewards for completing this quest? Honestly, they may not be as impressive as you expect.
You will receive XP and Gold, which will be adjusted to your level, as well as Rare Chest Armor, which is not particularly noteworthy.
Maybe you are fortunate enough to obtain a Legendary item from the Elites during the third phase of the Communing Pillar.
Ultimately, completing D4 The Way of the Three challenge is the most valuable reward.
