Updated December 3, 2022

Scent Of Survival is probably the most important God Of War Ragnarok Vanaheim Favour because it allows you to unlock a whole new area featured in the video game developed by Santa Monica Studio.

Although linear and relatively short, God Of War Ragnarok Scent Of Survival is mandatory if you want to get 100% completion in the game since it counts as one of the 47 Favors across the Nine Realms.

Furthermore, if you skip the GoW Ragnarok Scent Of Survival Favour, you’ll miss almost half of what Vanaheim has to offer because this quest is the one required to reach the area known as The Crater.

So, to help you finish it, our God Of War Ragnarok Scent Of Survival walkthrough below covers all objectives you’ll need to complete and all requirements you must meet for this Side Quest.

How To Start Scent Of Survival Favor In Vanaheim

To be able to start the Scent Of Survival and get to The Crater region in Vanaheim, you’ll have to progress the story and finish the 13th Main Quest named Creatures of Prophecy.

During the Creatures of Prophecy, you must help Freyr escape from prison, but during his escape, you’ll witness the sacrifice of Birgir, one of Freyr’s guards.

While most believe that Birgir is dead, Helka, his dog, senses his presence, so when you arrive at Freyr’s Camp, she’ll start barking, asking you to follow her.

So, the Scent Of Survival God of War Ragnarok Side Quest starts automatically after arriving at Freyr’s Camp.

Now, your main objective for this quest is to follow Helka.

Chasing After Helka

After starting the quest, you can opt to continue it or play it later. Either way, the objective is the same, and from Freyr’s Camp, you must head west to enter a cave. You’ll see a small hill inside, so make sure you follow the upper path.

Next, you’ll have to swing over two gaps. On the right side, you’ll see two air streams you can use to plant your spear. Swing over, and you’ll get to the beach. On the right side, you’ll see Helka’s tracks.

Interact with the tracks, jump into your boat, and head north (the right side of the river).

After crossing a small lake, dock your boat and follow the linear path ahead. When you reach the top of the hill, deal with the Wisps, then look around to spot a small hole at the bottom of a tree.

Squeeze inside and then keep pushing forward until you reach a small clearing. Now, while remaining on the ground, look around to spot a boulder you can move.

Follow the path behind the large stone block and deal with all enemies you may encounter.

The path ahead is linear, so you can’t get lost, but you’ll reach a large gate. When you see it, you have to make sure that you are playing this quest during the day.

If it’s night while facing the gate, take the path to the right (pictured below) to find a Celestial Altar.

Make sure you use it and change the time of the day. Or switch from night to day if you want.

Now head back to the iron gate and use the Blades of Choas to climb it. When you reach the top, the path gets linear again.

So simply run along the tree roots, and when you get to the other side, you’ll find Helka.

On the left side, you can also spot one of the 80 GoW Ragnarok Lore (also pictured above).

Now get close to Helka and interact with the gust of wind to summon Freyr’s paper boat.

The paper boat will eventually take you to the area known as The Crater, where things can get a bit messy. Therefore the moment you arrive in The Crater and the Scent of Survival ends, you’ll want to start the quest named For Vanaheim.
