Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Sepapa Shrine – Backtrack is one of the early shrines you may encounter while exploring the Central Hyrule region.
The star ability of the Sepapa Shrine is the Recall Ability. This rewind mechanic allows for a brief window of time to reverse the actions or movements of an object.
Because solving the Sepapa Shrine puzzles is going to require some serious mental gymnastics, follow our guide to learn our easy-to-follow solutions and how to get your hands on the treasures in The Legend of Zelda TotK.
Where To Find The Tears Of The Kingdom Sepapa Shrine
Sepapa Shrine is located east of the Hyrule Castle in the Central Hyrule region and northeast of the Lookout Landing. In the image below, you can see the exact location.
You can reach its location on foot, and you will find the shrine almost hidden by a small hill, but you can quickly locate it by the swirling green about it that shines at night.
Let’s enter the Sepapa Shrine and see how to solve all the puzzles within.
How To Complete The Legend Of Zelda Sepapa Shrine Puzzle
Immediately after entering the Sepapa Shrine, select the Recall Ability by holding (L) and moving your left stick to the left.
In the first section of the puzzle, you’ll see a green platform moving in a square pattern.
Climb the stairs near the platform and wait for it to reach the same height as you, then jump on it and quickly press (L) to stop the time.
Target the platform with the Recall Ability and press (A) to rewind it and get a lift to the next section.
In the next section of the Sepapa Shrine puzzle, we must open the locked gate and grab the treasure chest on the platform on the other side of the moving water.
Let’s start by collecting the treasure chest first, and we can do this in two ways.
The first method consists of picking up the torch in front of the gate, going across the water using the wooden board and lighting the torch along the way, then swinging on the vines to burn them and make the chest drop down.
The second method requires you to have some Fire Fruits from the previous shrines, like the In-isa Shrine, or collected in your adventures through the Hyrule Kingdom.
Hold (ZR) to pull out the bow, press DPad Up and select the Fire Fruit to attach it to your arrow. Aim at the vines and burn them down.
After the treasure chest drops down, open it to receive a Strong Construct Bow. To get back to the locked gate, wait for the wooden board to come by, jump on it and use the Recall Ability to rewind it.
Now, to solve the puzzle and unlock the gate, all you have to do is to light the two pillars. You can either use the torch or two Fire Fruits.
To throw a Fire Fruit, hold (R) and press DPad Up, then find and select the Fire Fruit. Or you can attach it to an arrow as before; it doesn’t really matter.
If you don’t have any Fire Fruits and want to light the pillars with the torch, make sure you have it equipped and jump on the wooden board.
As you get close to the lit pillars, use the Recall Ability on the board to return to the gate and quickly swing with the torch above the fire by pressing (Y) to light it up. Do not ‘holster’ the torch, or you will extinguish the fire.
After you open the gate, let’s move to the final section of the Sepapa Shrine puzzle.
On the right side of this room is a small sphere on a pedestal at the top of the slope. On this slope, you’ll see two holes that allow you to open the gates by dropping the sphere in them.
Unfortunately, there’s only one sphere, so that you can open one gate at a time.
To solve this puzzle, grab the sphere from the pedestal with the Ultrahand Ability and drop it into the closest hole, then pick it up again and drop it into the second hole at the bottom of the slope.
Following this order is essential; otherwise, it may not work as intended.
Afterward, go through the first gate, which should be open, select the Recall Ability and rewind the sphere from across back into the first hole.
By doing so, you’ll open the second gate leading to the altar. Interact with the green sigil to receive your Light of Blessing and to complete the Sepapa Shrine in Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.
