The Legend Of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom world is huge, and it won’t take long until you find out that fast travel is essential in the video game developed by Nintendo.
Luckily, you can unlock the ability to fast travel very early in the game while still exploring the first area, Great Sky Island.
It’s good to know that there will be a lot of fast travel points scattered throughout the map, which is divided into three levels: Sky, Surface, and Chasm.
As such, if you want to learn how to unlock fast travel and how it works exactly, make sure to check the following Legend Of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom guide.
How To Unlock Fast Travel In Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom
After you reach the Great Sky Island area and obtain the Purah Pad, you’ll complete The Legend Of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom Prologue; then, you’ll start your search for Princess Zelda.
Shortly after, you’ll reach the Temple of Time (the exact location is marked on the following map), which you must unlock by finding and completing three specific Shrines.

Once you’ve dealt with the three Shrines, you can make your way back to the Temple of Time to unlock it, or at least the first door.
You’ll also have to open a second door (pictured below), for which you’ll need a fourth Shrine.

The good news is that reaching the fourth Shrine will be easier because, in your attempt to open the second door, you’ll trigger a cutscene and unlock the fast travel option.
Now let’s see how fast travel works precisely.
How To Fast Travel In Legend Of Zelda TOTK
Fast traveling is pretty straightforward; all you need to do is to open your map by pressing – on your controller, select a Shrine (blue icon just like the one in the next screenshot), press A, select Travel, and just like magic, you’re there.

As you progress with the main story, you’ll see that you can fast-travel to other points, not just Shrines.
You’ll also encounter:
- Skyview Towers – interact with them to activate the fast travel option
- Lightroots – these can only be found in the Chasm (underground world), and you can activate them also by interacting with them
- Travel Medallions – items that are unlocked by completing Robbie’s tasks (an NPC you’ll meet later). You can place these items anywhere to later fast travel to that location.
That’s all, Link! You now know how to unlock and use the fast travel in Legend Of Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom. However, you can now focus on learning how to unlock the map or visit our Wiki Page Hub here for more useful guides.
