Starfield Bare Metal is a miscellaneous mission that you can embark on in the Neon City on the planet Volii Alpha.
During the Bare Metal side mission, the owner of the Neon Tactical weapon shop, Frank Renick, will ask you to find a gang member named Warlord, who vandalized his security bot.
This mission is very similar to the Mob Mentality side mission in the city of Neon, where you must deal with a Seokguh thug who’s been terrorizing Tevin Anastas’s shop.
So, after you find him in the Euphorika bar, you’ll have the choice to persuade him or kill him. But which one is the best option? Read on to learn how to start and complete the Bare Metal mission in Starfield.
How To Start the Bare Metal Side Mission in Starfield
The Bare Metal mission in Starfield begins by speaking with Frank Renick, the owner of the Neon Tactical weapons shop in Neon Core.
As you enter the Neon Core through the Spaceport Terminal elevator, look to your left to see the Trade Authority building.
You can find the Neon Tactical shop to the left of the Trade Authority. Head inside and engage in a conversation with Frank Renick.

When you start the conversation with Frank Renick, he greets you in an impolite manner at his shop.
Then, he will direct you to his robot, Styx, if you have any complaints about his customer service approach.
Next, Frank will complain about how people mistreat his robot, Styx, including spraying graffiti on its chassis.

So, you’ll be given the following dialogue option: “I could track the person down who defaced Styx if you like.” where you can initiate the Bare Metal mission in Starfield.
Once you agree to help track the person responsible for defacing Styx, Frank will provide you with additional information about the individual known as “Warlord” and their location.
Should You Kill or Speak to the Warlord in Bare Metal Mission
After you exit the Neon Tactical, take the alley on the left side of the building to enter the Ebbside district of the Neon City.
Head up the stairs and go along the railing on the left side until you see steam coming from the floor.
Take the path to the right and turn right again around the building to reach the entrance of Euphorika. Head inside to find the Warlord having a conversation with his disciple.
During your conversation with the Warlord, you will come across a point where you must choose between two dialogue options:
- [Persuade] You’re going to pay for the damages.
- [Attack] I’m going to get those credits from you, dead or alive.

If you decide to persuade Warlord, you must earn 8 Persuasion Points in three turns.
During my persuasion scenario, selecting the dialogue lines that avoid a violent confrontation worked every time, such as:
- Renick’s not all there in the head. Do you really want him as an enemy?
- I’m glad you’re starting to come around to my point of view.
- There must be some way we can both win here.
Also, a few skill points into Persuasion Skill will help if you want to avoid bloodshed.
But if you fail to convince him to pay for the damages, you are forced to kill the Warlord and his disciple. Don’t worry; no one in the bar except these two will become hostile, and they are easy targets.
Also, make sure to retrieve the Warlord’s Credits quest item before you return to Frank.

Even after successfully persuading the Warlord to pay for damages and depending on what type of character you’re role-playing (lawful or unlawful), you have the option to shoot and kill both of them, then loot them for some extra Credits and items.
Nobody in the bar will become hostile except these two.
Whether you persuaded or killed the Warlord, return to Frank Renick and give him the Warlord’s Credits to end the Starfield Bare Metal mission.
You will get the same amount of Credits and XP in both scenarios. The only difference is the conversation with Frank Renick when you return to him with the Warlord’s Credits. He will be pleased with both outcomes.
