Starfield Investigate the Abandoned Asteroid Mine is one of the many objectives as part of the Surgical Strike mission.
While searching for the clues in the VIP Wing inside The Clinic, you will find the “Urgent – Read Immediately” slate that reveals Maya Cruz has escaped to her hideout in the Abandoned Asteroid Mine at Sakharov.
So, your next task is to reach the Sakharov and investigate the Abandoned Asteroid Mine.
This part of the Surgical Strike mission in Starfield may be a little bit difficult, but I am here to help you navigate through the Abandoned Asteroid Mine and find Maya Cruz of the First.
How To Investigate the Abandoned Asteroid Mine in Starfield
After you jump to Sakharov, get within 500m of the Abandoned Asteroid Mine called Eklund Site CL25 and dock your ship.
After entering the Abandoned Asteroid Mine, walk through the narrow hallway, turn left, and press the green button to open the nearby “Secure Access” door.
Press another button to open the next door. Feel free to loot the surrounding area and the upper level, as you can find a few helpful aid items, crafting materials, and weapons.
When you are done looting, head towards the crystals on the metal walkways.
Be careful to avoid the mines left by Maya Cruz and take care of the lurking Shardhoppers before approaching the Emergency Cuttable Wall that is shown in the image below.
Shoot with any weapon to cut the four pins in each corner of the Emergency Cuttable Wall. To save your ammo, you can use the Cutter.
Then, follow the walkway and shoot the Robot Model A ahead. Take a right and descend the staircase.
Take the elevator down on your left and search the area for a ramp leading to a small metal structure. Be prepared for a fight, as you will encounter a few Shardhoppers and a Robot Model S.
Enter the structure at the top of the ramp and search for any loot around.
Next, locate the “Remote Security Door Computer” and solve the Novice Security Level puzzle using a Digipick to unlock the door blocking your path.
If you don’t have a Digipick, one is available on the desk near the center of the room. It would also be a good idea to quicksave if you’re low on Digipicks. You can reload the save in case you fail.
After successfully solving the Digipick puzzle, click on the Open Door button and proceed through the doorway located on the opposite side of the ramp.
As you walk along the metal walkway ahead, take a moment to look over the railing and destroy the Turret MK2 situated on top of the small structure.
Next, eliminate any Shardhoppers that come your way. If you explore the small structure on your left, you may come across some loot and a Research Lab.
To proceed deeper into the Abandoned Asteroid Mine, walk across the giant crystal and pull the switch in the nearby room to open the door.
Proceed with caution or run through the cave ahead to avoid Maya’s electrical mines while dealing with the Shadowhoppers along the way.
Eventually, you’ll reach an elevator. Search all the containers around the area, and make sure your guns are reloaded and your health bar is full.
Before you follow the stairs down or take the elevator, you should know that you are about to face a small army of robots in the following area:
- 5x Robot Model A
- 1x Robot Model S
- 4x Mining Turret MK I
- 1x Turret MK III
Approach the battle as you see fit. Additionally, there are aid items and ammo scattered on the ground floor.
Opposite the large access door on the right side of the area, you will find a terminal called Remote Robot Control Computer, which allows you to deploy a robot ally.
Before you press the “Activate Unit(s)” button, make sure to press the “Update Friend/Foe Settings” and “Recalibrate Friend/Foe Settings” buttons to make it protect you. Otherwise, you will deploy another hostile robot.
Once you defeat all the enemies, head towards the central structure, climb all the way to the top, and destroy the Turret MK III above the Emergency Cuttable Wall.
Finally, use any weapon to slice through the four pins on the Emergency Cuttable Wall as before, and get ready to confront Maya Cruz.
Either kill or spare her, then take her Encrypted Slate to leave the Abandoned Asteroid Mine finally.
Return to The Rock in Akila City and give the Encrypted Slate to Alex Shadid to complete the Surgical Strike mission. If you’ve also completed the On The Run mission, you’ve unlocked your next Freestar Collective faction mission, First to Fight, First to Die.
And that’s everything you need to know about how to investigate the Abandoned Asteroid Mine in Starfield. Before you go, make sure to check out our Wiki Hub Page for more helpful guides about the game.
