Starfield Lair of the Mantis floor puzzle is an intricate puzzle that might hold you back from obtaining both a Legendary Spacesuit Set and Legendary Ship.
As you get close to finishing the Mantis mission in Starfield, you will come across a particular room that requires more caution.
The area is heavily guarded with turrets and traps, and scattered on the ground are multiple bodies. You’ll also notice the floor with a bunch of tiles, each labeled with letters.
Be careful not to step on the wrong tile or attempt to jump over them, as this will trigger the turrets, and you’ll know what will happen next.
So, in the following guide, I will explain how to solve the Lair of the Mantis puzzle in Starfield and also a way to skip it.
How To Solve the Lair of the Mantis Floor Puzzle in Starfield
As you navigate through the Lair of the Mantis, shooting everyone standing in your way, you may come across an NPC named Livvey, assuming he was not caught in the crossfire.
Livvey offers to help and explains that the upcoming corridor has a deadly puzzle with letters on the floor that has stumped everyone who has tried to solve it.
After you finish the conversation with Livvey, you will encounter the Lair of the Mantis floor puzzle consisting of letter tiles.

So, to avoid being attacked by the turrets at the end of the corridor, you must spell a secret word by stepping on the correct tiles.
The puzzle solution is hidden in one of the audio logs inside the lair. Leo discusses his mother’s habit of repeating the phrase “Sic semper tyrannis.”
To solve the Mantis floor puzzle in Starfield, you must walk across the puzzle’s eight rows of letters and spell out the word “TYRANNIS”.
If you struggle to identify the spray-painted letters, refer to the image provided or follow the list below.
- T – 3rd from the left.
- Y – 1st from the left.
- R – 5th from the left.
- A – 6th from the left.
- N – 4th from the left.
- N – 7th from the left.
- I – 2nd from the left.
- S – 3rd from the left.

Alternatively, you can hack the computer before the puzzle to disable the turrets at the end of the corridor.
To do so, you must be at least Rank 3 in Security Skill, as the computer has a Master level lock.

But if you don’t have access to the computer and need to solve the Mantis puzzle quickly, you can jump and boost to the other side, then press the button to open the door. If you are well-equipped, you may reach the end of the corridor before your health bar goes to 0.
After you make your way to the other side of the room and kill a bunch of robots ahead, you can obtain the Mantis Legendary Spacesuit Set and unlock the Razorleaf Ship, which comes equipped with shielded cargo holds and an armory.
