Hammer of the Champion is the third Diablo 4 side-quest you must complete in the Bear Tribe Refuge village before being able to speak to the Chieftain and start the Call of the Ancients side-quest.

Alongside the Shattered Tribute and the Beast’s Challenge side-quests, the Hammer of Champion allows your Nephalem to prove worthy in the eyes of the Bear Tribe Chieftain.

Reaching the Bear Tribe Chieftain, however, is not an easy task, and as part of the Diablo IV Hammer of the Champion side quest, you must find and retrieve a fabled weapon within the Rimescar Cavern dungeon.

The said weapon is the Grizzly’s Maul, and in the following guide, we’ll discuss its locations and all other objectives you must complete for the Hammer of the Champion quest.

How To Start the Hammer of the Champion Quest in Diablo 4

To start the Hammer of the Champion side-quest, you must enter the Bear Tribe Refuge settlement on the northern side of the Fractured Peaks region after completing the Prologue.

In the video game developed by Blizzard Entertainment, the Prologue is mandatory for unlocking side-quests.

After you enter Kyovashad, head northeast towards the snowy areas and look for the Bear Tribe Refuge at the location marked below.

Diablo 4 Hammer of the Champion side quest is available in the Bear Tribe Refuge settlement.

Inside the village, find the Bear Tribe warrior named Greganoch in front of a wooden trophy display. On display, you’ll see multiple Khazra heads.

Talk to him, and he’ll tell you that the Chieftain’s champion Baltok was recently killed, and his weapon, the fabled Grizzly’s Maul, was taken by the goatmen known as Khazra.

Your objective is to retrieve the weapon and bring it back to Greganoch, thus earning the trust of the Chieftain.

Where To Find the Diablo 4 Grizzly Maul

The Grizzly Maul is found within the Rimescar Cavern dungeon, located south of Bear Tribe Refuge village.

As you can see on the following map, you’ll need to reach the area known as Malnok, which is also one of the Fractured Peak Strongholds.

The Grizzly Maul is inside the Rimescar Cavern dungeon.

Rimescar Cavern dungeon can’t be accessed unless you complete the Malnok Stronghold, so focus on conquering it first.

After clearing the area, head inside the Rimescar Cavern instance and explore its tunnels.

Since the dungeons in Diablo 4 are randomly generated, it’s impossible to pinpoint the exact Grizzly Maul location; however, be on the lookout for an impaled corpse similar to the one pictured below.

To get the Diablo 4 Grizzly Maul look for the Impaled Champion Baltok

As long as you thoroughly explore the dungeon, it’s impossible to miss the Grizzly Maul, especially because its location also gets marked on the minimap when you are close to it.

Furthermore, you’ll find it before reaching the final boss in the Rimescar Cavern, which means you can exit the instance without dealing with the boss.

However, it is best to complete the Rimescar Cavern and unlock the Aspect of Plunging Darkness for the Necromancer Class.

After you get the Grizzly Maul, quickly exit the dungeon using the icon on your map and head back to Greganoch. Talk to him, and he’ll tell you that according to the Bear Tribe tradition, you get to keep the weapon.

Alongside the weapon, you’ll also receive Gold, XP, and 20 Fractured Peaks Renown Points, so now you can scratch one of the 35 Fractured Peaks side quests off the list.
