Pyre of Ash is a Diablo 4 side-quest, part of the Claws at the Throat questline, where you must help Torben, the Under the Fat Goose Innkeeper, find a source of smoke who the NPC thinks is the doing of the Blackweald Company.

Diablo 4 Pyre of Ash is the second quest in the questline and also counts as one of the 47 Scosglen side-quests.

The quest is quite accessible, provided you meet the requirements needed to start it, and if you want to achieve 100% completion in the Scosglen region, you must also finish it.

As such, it would be best to check the following walkthrough to learn how to complete D4 Pyre of Ash side-quest quickly.

How To Start Pyre of Ash Quest in Diablo 4

To begin Pyre of Ash, you must first reach the Scosglen region after starting Act 2, then complete the previous quest in the questline, Claws at the Throat.

After getting all set, you must make your way to the Under the Fat Goose Inn on the west side of the Highland Wilds area.

Then look for Torben, the Innkeeper, and ask him more about the Blackweald Company.

The NPC will tell you they are ruthless mercenaries from the Days of Ash that only the desperate hired.

As you discuss with Torben, a concerned local will interrupt you, saying that smoke’s billowing from the southern ridge.

Torben seems to think there is a connection between the source of the smoke and the Blackweald Company.

Therefore, you should investigate, and Torben will stay behind to see no harm reaches the Goose.

Upon finishing speaking with Torben, you can open your map to see the quest’s search area on the south side of the Highland Wilds area.

To continue, you must head to the search area and find the source of the smoke.

To aid you even further, we’ve marked the exact spot you need to reach on the D4 map below.

When you get to the place, more precisely in Recluse Hovel, you can see the entrance into an Embered Recess.

Now get inside and progress until you reach a Charred Pyre in a larger area, as shown in the next image.

Interact with it, and you’ll get surrounded by Blackweald mercenaries, among which two Elites.

The battle can get difficult, depending on your World Tier level, but luckily Torben is here to assist you.

Defeat the mobs, then talk to Torben to find out he was once part of the Blackweald Company but decided to betray them and cut them down, one by one.

However, it seems he didn’t get all of them, and now they want revenge.

Nicely done, Nephalem! You’ve completed Diablo 4 Pyre Ash and received the following: XP, Gold, Renown points, and a Cache. But to continue the questline, you must meet Torben at the Goose and start the Chasing Embers side-quest.
