Scorched Debts is a Diablo 4 Act 3 side-quest, and to start it, you need to find the Scorched Debt Ledger, a smoldering book wrapped in leather, in the Khargai Crags area.

Diablo 4 Scorched Debts quest can be long, especially if you have no luck in finding a certain NPC fast in a rather large search area.

However, Scorched Debts is quite fun, and you must finish it if you want to achieve 100% completion in Dry Steppes, as it’s part of the 38 side-quests available in the region.

Therefore, you should check the walkthrough below and don’t waste too much time while completing D4 Scorched Debts.

How To Start Scorched Debts Quest in Diablo 4

Just like the Keeping the Old Traditions side-quest, Scorched Debts is available in the Dry Steppes region right as you start Act 3.

When you are ready, you must make your way to Bastard’s Pass on the west side of the Khargai Crags area, at the location pinpointed on the following D4 map.

Diablo 4 Scorched Debts quest becomes available from the start of Act 3

After you reach the spot, you’ll find the Scorched Debt Ledger, and if you interact with it, you get the message:

I, Andreea of Lakren’s Overlook, offer a debt in exchange for my deepest desires. May this ledger be bound until my desires are granted, or upon my death, whichever comes first.

-Signed, Andreea of Lakren’s Overlook.

The quest starts immediately after closing the book; thus, let’s see how to finish it.

Where To Find Lyruk in Diablo 4

The quest’s first objective is to travel to Lakren’s Overlook, south of The Onyx Watchtower, as shown on the next map.

Head to the middle of the small search area to find a woman NPC named Andreea the Shadow, whom you must speak with.

She will tell you she regrets stealing the book from Ked Bardu and desperately attacks you.

After defeating Andreea, you decide to head to Ked Bardu to seek answers because it seems there is something evil lurking within the book.

Once in Ked Bardu, the main town of the Dry Steppes region, you must go speak with the innkeeper about the ledger.

As such, follow the waypoint of the quest’s objective and talk to the innkeeper, who will tell you to see Svea down in the barbarian quarter.

Follow the waypoint again to get to the area of the town’s Blacksmith, where you’ll find Svea next to a cauldron.

Talk to Svea, and she will send you to Setsgi, the healer located next to the town’s fast travel point.

Setsgi finally has some answers, and she speaks about her brother, Lyruk, the archaeologist, who found the book and didn’t want to destroy it.

You must now find Lyruk, who is camping out in the Crown of Fiends on the east side of the Khargai Crags area.

Considering the search area is quite big, we’ve marked the exact location of the archaeologist on the next map.

After reaching the spot, you’ll find Lyruk next to a tent and a cart.

Talk to the archaeologist to find out the poor man owes his soul to the book and suggests you burn it, which is what he should have done in the first place.

So go to the nearby fire and interact with it to try to burn the book.

Not only does the book stand intact, but you get attacked by a couple of demons.

After defeating the mobs, go back to Lyruk, who comes with a new suggestion to get rid of the book, and that is to summon the demon who owns the ledger.

To do so, you have to follow Lyruk to Wayfarer’s Folly, a location to the southwest.

The summoning ritual's location is in Wayfarer's Folly

Upon getting to the place, talk to Lyruk yet again, and he will summon the demon Orrostus, The Debt Collector.

Sadly the demon instantly kills Lyruk, and only after can you battle with him.

It shouldn’t be too hard to slay the demon and finally complete Diablo 4 Scorched Debts quest receiving the following rewards: XP, Gold, Renown points, and a Cache. However, there are more side-quests available in the Dry Steppes region for you to tackle, like The Unlucky Ones.
