Disney Dreamlight Valley Royal Tools Guide: Where To Find The Pickaxe, Shovel, Watering Can, And Fishing Rod

Disney Dreamlight Valley Royal Tools is the second quest available in the video game developed by Gameloft, and it allows you to unlock the Pickaxe, Shovel, Watering Can, and Fishing Rod.

Although this quest becomes available early in the game, finding the Royal Tools is not easy, mainly because their locations do not appear on your map, and there are no markers to show you where they are.

Additionally, one of the tools you have to find is part of another quest, as you’ll see below.

So, to help you finish the Royal Tools quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, throughout the following guide, I’ll tell you everything you need to know.

How To Start The Royal Tools Quest In Disney Dreamlight Valley

Royal Tools starts automatically after you meet Merlin and get to know your new establishment.

So, to get to this quest, the only requirement is to finish the Welcome To Dreamlight Valley quest, which also serves as a tutorial.

At the end of the said quest, you’ll unlock your house in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and Merlin offers extra instructions on what you should do next. Specifically, he’ll ask you to find the Royal Tools.

If you check your journal or the list of quests in the game’s menu, you’ll notice that for finishing this quest, you’ll earn 300 XP; however, first, you’ll have to complete all four objectives:

  1. Find the Royal Pickaxe in the Plaza and pull it from the Stone
  2. Find the Shovel in the Plaza
  3. Find the Watering Can in the Plaza
  4. Find the Fishing Rod in the Meadow

Aside from the XP you’ll earn for finishing the quest, you’ll also get access to 4 of the tools available in the game. So, let’s see where to find them.

Where To Find The Royal Pickaxe

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Royal Pickaxe is the first Tool you should get because it allows you to clear stones and other obstacles.

Since the quest starts inside your house, the first thing you’ll want to do is to exit by approaching the door.

Now, once outside, head left and move towards the round plaza, then head right.

At this point, you should be able to see Scrooge McDuck in front of his house. You don’t have to interact with him if you don’t want to, but you have to go left around his house.

As you move around the corner of his house, on the right side, you should be able to spot the Royal Pickaxe.

As you can see in my screenshot above, the Disney Dreamlight Valley Pickaxe is in a stone, and all you need to do is to approach the rock and interact with the tool to unlock it.

Great job! Now you can mine and remove stones in Disney Dreamlight Valley. Now, let’s see where to find the next tool.

Where To Find The Shovel

The Royal Shovel allows you to dig holes and use them to plant seeds, so getting this tool as fast as possible is pretty important.

The Shovel’s location is only several steps away from the stone where you found the Pickaxe. As such, retrace your steps to the round plaza with a well in the middle.

The moment you enter the said Plaza, on the right side, you can see a closed restaurant named Chez Remy.

The Disney Dreamlight Valley Shovel is in front of the Chez Remy Restaurant.

Again, all you need to do is to interact with it.

Watering Can Location

Now that you can dig holes and plant seeds, you’ll need to water the plants if you wish to harvest crops.

For this, as you can guess, you’ll need a Watering Can. To get it, after you find the Shovel, return to the round Plaza and head back to your house.

As you can see below, the Watering Can in Disney Dreamlight Valley is behind some barrels next to your house.

To get the Watering Can, you’ll have to remove the thorns in front of the barrels simply by pressing the corresponding button while standing next to them. On Xbox, you need to press A.

Where To Find The Fishing Rod In The Meadow

Great job! Now that you found the Watering Can, Shovel, and Pickaxe, it’s time to go after the Disney Dreamlight Valley Fishing Rod; however, this one is located in the Meadow, and to get it, you’ll have to complete another quest.

So, retrace your steps back to the round plaza with the fountain in the center, then turn right and keep moving south until you see some stairs.

Head down the stairs, and you’ll notice some stones that block your way. At this point, you’ll need to use the Pickaxe, so on Xbox, press RT to equip the Pickaxe Tool, then X to destroy the rocks.

Upon clearing the path, you’ll enter the Meadow area, and here you have two choices:

As you can see, both of these choices are valid and have the same result. So we’ll go with the latter and save some time.

Therefore, when you enter the Meadow area in Disney Dreamlight Valley, take a right turn, and you’ll see a small stand by a pond. On the other side of the pond, on the ground (pictured below), is a Broken Fishing Rod.

While this is not the Fishing Rod you are looking for, Goofy can help you restore it as part of the Fishing Expedition quest. So make sure you get it.

Now, turn around, and you can see Goofy’s house in the distance.

Disney Dreamlight Valley Goofy's House

Make sure you remove the Thorns by the door and get inside to meet one of the most beloved Disney characters, Goofy.

By talking to Goofy, you’ll get the chance to continue his quest named Fishing Expedition, and as part of this quest, you’ll also unlock the Fishing Rod or the last of the four Royal Tools.

Furthermore, Goofy will teach you how to fish in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and you’ll unlock one of his Stalls, so make sure you finish the Fishing Expedition quest.

Once Fishing Expedition ends, find Merlin north of the Plaza area, and talk to him again to complete the Disney Dreamlight Valley Royal Tools quest and unlock A New Enchantment quest we covered in-depth here.
