Chained Zakarum Repository is another hidden quest in Diablo 4‘s Hawezar region, in which you must recover the quest item of the same name and harvest lingering essence to open it.
It’s nothing unique about the D4 Chained Zakarum Repository quest, as we’ve seen this type of quest in the previous regions, such as Sealed Penitent’s Cache in Dry Steppes or Sealed Khazra Offering in Kehjistan.
The most challenging part of these quests is finding the quest item’s drop location.
Hence, the following Diablo IV guide will provide you with all the necessary information to retrieve the quest item and harvest the lingering essence to finish the Chained Zakarum Repository quest.
How To Start the Chained Zakarum Repository Quest in Diablo 4
The Chained Zakarum Repository can only be started by finding and collecting the Chained Zakarum Repository quest item.
You can find the quest item while searching the corpses (Slain Crusaders) in the Dismal Foothills subregion of Hawezar.

We were lucky to obtain the quest item from a Slain Crusader corpse in the Crimson Spoil area of Dismal Foothills.
We’ve also marked the location in the image below. But remember, it’s not guaranteed that you’ll get the drop in the same area since the corpses randomly spawn across the realm.

Where To Harvest Lingering Essence in Diablo IV
When you pick up the Chained Zakarum Repository quest item, your next objective is to harvest lingering essence.
To harvest lingering essence, you must slay the enemies marked with red dots on the map in the blue circle area and collect their red souls, as shown in the image below.

Fill the quest progress bar located under the minimap on the right side of the screen to finish the Chained Zakarum Repository quest in Diablo 4.
For completing the side quest, you will be awarded with XP, Gold, 20 Renown Points for the Hawezar region, and the Unchained Zakarum Repository.
If you are on a hunt to complete all 49 side quests within the region, please refer to our Hawezar side quests locations guide for additional help.
