Friends Aren’t Food is Scar’s second quest in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and it’s a lot easier than Nature & Nurture covered in this guide.
The reward for completing Friends Aren’t Food is 260 XP and, of course, the continuation of Scar’s storyline.
The friendship quest is not that hard, but you still might get stuck with gathering the resources required to complete it.
So, don’t forget to follow the walkthrough below if you want to complete Friends Aren’t Food as fast as possible.
How To Start Friends Aren’t Food In Disney Dreamlight Valley
First, you have some requirements that you need to meet in order to start Scar’s friendship quest:
- Complete the Nature & Nurture story quest (you have the link to the quest walkthrough above)
- Reach friendship level 2 with Scar (check our friendship level-up guide here if you need help)
- Progress further with Remy, up to the point when you unlock Chez Remy restaurant
When you are all set, speak with Scar to start the Friends Aren’t Food quest.

Don’t forget about the game’s map if you have problems locating the NPC.
How To Get Citrines & Iron Ingots
It seems Scar doesn’t like your clothes, so you have to find something more to his liking.
Mother Gothel can help in this matter; therefore, you should pay her a visit.
Upon talking to Mother Gothel, you have to gather some materials that she needs to make a coat for you. Here is the list:
- 10 Fibers
- 4 Fabrics
- 2 Citrines
- 1 Iron Ingot
Let’s start with the Disney Dreamlight Valley Citrines, which are gems that can be mined from the black rock deposits in the following Biomes:
- Sunlit Plateau
- Glade of Trust

The Citrines are not a guaranteed drop, so you have to mine several deposits, but fortunately, the black rocks respawn quite fast.
While farming the Citrines, you should also get Iron Ore and Coal Ore from the deposits.
Note that the deposits in Glade of Trust will provide the most Iron Ore.
Once you have 5 Iron Ore and 1 Coal Ore, go to a Crafting Station and make 1 Iron Ingot from the Refined Material tab.
How To Get Fiber
Now let’s see how you can get the 10 Fibers which are also Refined Materials.
This means that you can make Fibers at a Crafting Station. To craft the 10 Fibers, you’ll need 2 Seaweeds.
Seaweed can be fished from any source of water, but you have to aim for clear water, not the ripples, just like in the following image.

If you need further assistance with fishing in general, you should check our fishing guide here.
Keep in mind that it is not guaranteed to catch Seaweed, but as long as you fish in clear water, you should get the 2 Seaweeds pretty fast.
Then go to a Crafting Station and make the 10 Fibers.
If you are lucky, you can also find Fibers for sale at Kristoff’s Stall, provided you’ve completed the Village Project: A Mountain Man’s Stall and A Broken Sled quests to unlock and upgrade the Stall.
How To Get Fabric
Finally, you need 4 Fabrics which you can craft with 20 Cotton at a Crafting Station.
You’ll have to plant Cotton yourself, and you can find Seeds at Goofy’s Stall in the Sunlit Plateau area.

One bag of Cotton Seed costs 42 Star Coins, and it takes 25 minutes to grow.
When you have the 20 Cotton, go to a Crafting Station and make 4 Fibers from the Refined Material tab.
Fabric can also be found sometimes for sale at Kristoff’s Stall.
Sake Maki Recipe
Now bring the gathered materials to Mother Gothel to see what’s next in the Friends Aren’t Food quest.
She will give you the Brown Faux-Fur-Trimmed Jacket, and you need to put it on, so open your inventory with the Y button on your Xbox controller.
Then select the Wardrobe tab, go to Scar’s icon under requests, and finally, put on the Jacket.
Now make your way back to Scar and talk to him to find out he is hungry.
Thus, go to Remy to see what you can prepare for the starving lion, so he doesn’t eat the whole Village.
Remy will give you 2 Recipes for you to cook until he makes dessert for Scar.
First, open your inventory and learn the 2 Recipes:
- Sake Maki
- Tekka Maki
Now let’s make Disney Dreamlight Valley Sake Maki, for which you need Rice, Seaweed, and Salmon.
The good news is that you already know how to obtain Seaweed.
Salmon can be fished from the Frosted Heights and Sunlit Plateau areas (don’t forget I’ve linked the fishing guide above)
And as for the Rice, you can grow it yourself after buying Seeds for 35 Star Coins per bag from Goofy’s Stall in Glade of Trust.

Rice takes 50 minutes to grow, so have patience.
Once you have the ingredients, go to a Cooking Station and prepare the Sake Maki (2 portions).
How To Make Tekka Maki
The ingredients needed for Tekka Maki are:
- Tuna
- Soya
- Seaweed
- Rice
Tuna can be fished in the Forgotten Lands and Glade of Trust areas or obtained from Moana’s Boat if you upgrade it.
Soya can be grown if you buy Seeds from Goofy’s Stall in Sunlit Platea.

As you can see in the screenshot above, you can find Soya directly at the Stall if you are lucky, but if not, the Seeds cost 60 Star Coins a bag and take 1 hour and 30 minutes to grow.
As for the Seaweed and Rice, you already know how to obtain them (the instructions are mentioned above).
Now put the ingredients into a pot on a Stove to make the Tekka Maki (you need two portions).
Then bring the sushi to Remy and follow him to give Scar his food.
Listen to the conversation between Scar and Remy, which is quite funny, then talk to the lion yourself to complete the Disney Dreamlight Valley Friends Aren’t Food quest. You can now start Scar’s next quest, named Breaking Bones (covered in this guide).
