God of War Ragnarok The Barrens collectibles are pretty tricky to get during your first visit to the Alfheim Realm, especially if you don’t know how to approach this area, where you’ll need to face a sandstorm.
Even though you won’t be able to retrieve all God of War Ragnarok Barrens collectibles and finish all activities to reach 100% completion, it is worth looking for as many as possible when you first enter the desert area.
After finishing the story, you can return to The Barrens region and clear it. Specifically, the only two activities you won’t be able to complete are the Berserker Gravestone and the Remnants of Asgard.
The rest can be secured after you finish Groa’s Secret Main Quest, provided you don’t follow Tyr.
Instead, head through The Canyons area that opens up near The Strond Mystic Gateway and find all collectibles following this guide.
After reaching Sindri’s Shop in The Canyons, don’t forget to start the Secret of the Sands Favor outlined here and focus on it.
Completing the Secret of the Sands Favour is essential for The Barrens collectibles because it will remove the sandstorm.
The Secret of the Sands Side-Quest takes place in The Below, where you can retrieve all collectibles we’ve already explained in a single run.
Only after you finish the Favour (check our guide here for all God of War Ragnarok Favors) should you start looking for the following collectibles in The Barrens:
- 1 Nornir Chest
- 3 Legendary Chests
- 4 Lore
- 3 Artifacts
- 1 Buried Treasure
- 2 Odin’s Ravens
- 1 Draugr Hole
- 1 Berserker Gravestone
- 1 Remnant of Asgard
- 1 Secret of the Sands
Now let’s see where to find them.
Secret Of The Sands Favor: Talk To Sindri In The Canyons
Since Secret of the Sands is required to explore The Barrens, in GoW Ragnarok, it is the first activity you’ll need to complete.
As such, find Sindri at his shop in The Canyons and trigger the side quest. Now, focus on it, and if you need help, follow our Secret of the Sands walkthrough here.
Although it starts in The Canyons, Secret of the Sands counts as a Barrens activity.

Artefact (Harp – Tributes to Freyr Set): In A Cave
After finishing the Favor above, you’ll be able to fully explore The Barrens without being interrupted by the storm.
Head south towards the arch connecting The Barrens and The Canyons area, then head east, hugging the mountain wall.
As you move east, you’ll see an entrance (pictured below) to a cave.

Squeeze inside and look around. There are two collectibles here.
First, grab the glowing pink artefact on the ground, on the right side of the chest.

Legendary Chest (Rönd of Affliction Shield Attachment): Behind Some Vines
In the same cave where you found the Artifact above, you can spot one of the GoW Ragnarok Barrens Legendary Chests. It also appears in the screenshot above.
This one is quite tricky as it’s blocked by some vines or roots. To unlock it, you’ll need to practice and time your axe throw.
Start by placing Kratos on the right side of the chest where the artefact was found. Next, turn left, and you’ll see a purple Twilight Stone on the upper wall of the cave.
The idea here is to aim for the Twilight Stone and throw your axe. Eventually, it will ricochet into the two red sacks on the upper side. After it hits the second one, you’ll want to press the triangle button and quickly recall the axe so it can hit the third red sack on its way back.
As you are about to see, timing and your position (see below) are essential.

Remnants Of Asgard: On Top Of A Ledge
The Barrens Remnants of Asgard is the first activity you won’t be able to complete until you finish the main story.
You’ll find it northeast of the entrance to The Below area or on the southeastern side of The Barrens map.
As you can see below, it looks like a force field on the top of a ledge.

After you climb the ledge, you’ll have to face Stinnr and Sterkr mini-bosses.
Deal with them, then loot the chest in the small camp to obtain crafting materials and hacksilver. This will also progress The Last Remnants of Asgard Favor explained here.
Berserker Gravestone (Svipdagr The Cold & Sisters of Illiska): In The Middle Of A Round Arena
The Barrens Berseker Gravestone is the second activity that requires you to progress the story. Specifically, you’ll need to complete the Forging Destiny Main Quest and start the Fit For A King Favor.
Once you start the said Favor, look for the Berseker Gravestone on the eastern side of The Barrens.
As you can see below, it sits in front of the Lore Marker in a round area.

By interacting with the Gravestone, you’ll summon two bosses: Svipdagr The Cold and Sisters of Illiska. Defeat them to complete the activity and obtain the Asgard’s Security Enchantment, Berserker Cuirass Armor, and a Frozen Flame.
Lore Marker (Gulon Cull): Behind The Berserker Gravestone
The second GoW Ragnarok Lore in The Barrens is relatively easy to spot because it’s behind the Gravestone above.
You can simply collect this when you enter The Barrens by interacting with the stone.

Buried Treasure (Vulture’s Gold): Inside The Skeleton Head
From the previous collectible, keep moving west on your map and remain close to the mountain wall.
You should be able to spot the skeleton of a large beast.
Climb the ledge near its mouth, and you should be able to spot a glowing yellow orb (pictured below).

This orb is a digging spot and only spawns if you previously found the Vulture’s Gold Treasure Map we explained in-depth here.
Odin’s Raven: Inside The Skeleton’s Eye
After picking up the Buried Treasure, let’s see where to find the first God of War Ragnarok Barrens Odin’s Raven.
From your current location, exit the skeleton head but drop on the other side.
Now look up, and you should see the glowing Raven sitting inside the eye. Aim slightly above the bird and throw Kratos’ Leviathan Axe to kill it.

Lore Marker (The Desert of Our Ignorance): Inside The Skeleton’s Neck
Now, head back to the skeleton, and from where you found the Buried Treasure, climb the ledge inside his body.
In the next area, you’ll have to defeat some Grims first.
Once you’re done with them on the other side of the area, you’ll see another Lore Marker.

Artifact (Celestial Construct – Kvasir’s Poems Set): Inside The Skeleton’s Torso
The next God of War Ragnarok collectible you can obtain is another Artifact.
After reading the Lore Marker above, climb the wall on the left side, and you’ll see another glowing item on the ground.

Legendary Chest (Belt of Radiance Waist Armor): Inside The Skeleton
Fairly easy to spot, the second GoW Ragnarok Barens Legendary Chest is near the previous collectible.
Open it to obtain the Belt of Radiance Waist Armor for Kratos.

Nornir Chest: In A Demolished Tower
Upon fully exploring the skeleton, exit the same way you entered and head southwest on your map, looking for a demolished tower covered in roots or vines.
Inside the tower, you’ll find the God of War Ragnarok Barrens Nornir Chest, but to open it, first, you’ll have to get rid of the roots.
As such, go around the tower, and you’ll spot three red sacks while facing the building from its northern side. Charge your axe and throw it at the sacks so you can hit them in a single throw.
Upon getting rid of the roots, you’ll want to light three Braziers using the Blades of Chaos.
The first one, pictured below, is on the right side of the chest, and you have to get close to it and press R2 while aiming to ignite it.
The second one (also pictured below) it’s more accessible, so hit it several times with the Blades of Chaos.

On the other hand, the third Barrens Nornir Chest Brazier can be easy to miss if you don’t look up.
As you can see, it sits on the tower’s roof, with an explosive barrel next to it.
Switch to the Leviathan Axe and aim for the red barrel. When it explodes, it will ignite the last Brazier, and you’ll be able to open one of the 35 God of War Ragnarok Nornir Chests listed here.
Odin’s Raven: On A Tree Branch
The second Barrens Odin Raven is relatively easy to spot. After opening the Nornir Chest, you should be able to spot another tower further to the southwest of your location.
Get close to it, and outside you’ll see a withered tree and the Raven sitting on the branch.

This is the last Odin Raven in The Barrens, but if you want to track all of them, check our God of War Ragnarok Odin Ravens locations guide here.
Lore Marker (The Tower’s Purpose) & Artifact (Horn – Tributes to Freyr Set): Inside The Second Tower
Now head inside the tower but get ready to fight some Dark Elves.
Once you are done with them, look by the mountain wall to spot the Lore Marker. Next to it is also another God of War Ragnarok Artifact.

Upon collecting the last Artifact in this area, check our complete GoW Ragnarok Artifacts Locations guide if you want to find all of them.
Lore (The Lost Pages) & Legendary Chest (Gauntlets of Radiance Wrist Armor): Near The Previous Collectibles
The last Lore in The Barrens and the third Legendary Chest is close to the previous collectibles.
Specifically, they are in the same tower but on the other side.

Now that you found the last Legendary Chest and the final Lore in The Barrens remember to track your progress using our GoW Ragnarok Legendary Chests Locations guide and the Lore Locations guide.
Draugr Hole: On A Small Hill
The last activity you’ll need to finish to achieve 100% completion in The Barrens is closing the Draugr Hole.
The Barrens Draugr Hole in God of War Ragnarok is found on the western side of the map, south of your current location.

Climb the stairs pictured above and deal with The Hateful to close one of the 6 Draugr Holes and progress the Born From Fire Favor we covered in this guide.
Now the God of War Ragnarok Barrens area is 100% complete so feel free to choose another location by visiting our Wiki Hub page.
