The Ascent Dark Horse: How To Rescue Ubi

The Ascent Dark Horse is another side-mission available in the video game developed by Neon Giant, and the most annoying one; because while trying to complete the Rescue Ubi objective, there is a chance to encounter a very nasty bug.

Out of 28 Ascent side-missions (see the full list here), you’ll need to finish; the Dark Horse is the only one that features a bug that is extremely hard to avoid; however, below we’ll cover some methods you can try in case you encounter the so-called Dark Horse Rescue Ubi bug that is driving people mad these days.

So, let’s see what is The Dark Horse and what you have to do in order to complete it.

Hopefully, without encountering the Rescue Ubi problem.

What Is The Dark Horse?

The Dark Horse is a middle-game side mission in The Ascent.

When Should You Start The Dark Horse Mission?

The recommended level for this side mission is 17, so you can start it while playing Data Miner main mission.

What Do You Get For Completing Dark Horse?

For finishing this side mission, you’ll get 22.000 XP and the Propulsion Leap Augmentation.

How To Get To corpZone?

corpZone is unlocked by playing the game’s main missions. Both Foreign Code and Syntax Error take you to this district.

Where To Find Ubi Gadeteer (Dark Horse Quest Giver)?

Ubi is found in The Node, south of the Armor Vendor.

He is standing by a table near a fast-food shop.

You can see his location on the map below as well as his in-game position.

How To Get To The Race Track

After you talk to Ubi, your first goal is to go to the race track in corpZone.

This district is located west of Gemini Stacks and The Glut.

If this is the first time you visit this area, you’ll need to walk there so you can unlock the Train Station and the destination for the taxi.

You can see the exact location you’ll need to reach on the map below.

The Ascent Plant Emp Actuators

How To Plant 5 Emp Actuators

Upon reaching the search area, you are asked to plant 5 EMP Actuators.

First, clear the whole area and make sure no enemies are left alive here.

Then you’ll want to look for 5 shuttles that look just like the one below.

They are lined up, so they are pretty easy to find.

Approach them one by one, then press X to plant the EMP Actuators.

The Ascent Install Emp Actuators

How To Call Ubi

Once you are done installing the EMP, your next objective in The Dark Horse is to call Ubi.

To do so, look for the Fast Lane building marked on your map and approach the front door.

Press Y on your Xbox controller to hack the door, then use the phone in front of you as you enter (also pictured).

How To Rescue Ubi (Bug/Glitch)

The final objective in this mission is to Rescue Ubi, and unfortunately, it is also the one that is bugged for a large majority of players.

To complete the Dark Horse side-mission, you’ll have to head to The Glut, as you can see in my image below.

The idea here is very simple. Clear the marked area by killing all enemies, then talk to Ubi to finish the mission.

The Ascent Rescue Ubi Location

The problem, however, and also The Dark Horse mission bug, is that Ubi won’t talk to you.

As such, even after you kill all enemies, you’ll find Ubi cowering behind his racing shuttle, and you won’t be able to talk to him, as you can see below.

Obviously, this is going to get patched soon, but for now, let’s see what you can do. Besides contacting the developers.

Dark Horse Rescue Ubi Bug Fixes

Here are several walkarounds you can try in case Ubi doesn’t want to talk to you:

  • Exit the district and travel to another tier, then return to him
  • Finish all main missions, then try to rescue Ubi
  • Completely restart the game and your console
  • Finally, while standing near Ubi, exit the game then start a multiplayer game, but pick Host Saved Game
  • You can also try talking to Ubi while playing this quest on Couch Coop

Let me know if these methods worked for you and if you managed to Rescue Ubi.

Also, keep in mind that most side-missions in the game are bugged, but there are fixes for them.

This one, on the other hand, will most likely require a patch.
