Very close to Kalm City, you can find the fourth Grasslands Fiend Intel, named Wailing Weed. This FFVII Rebirth Combat Challenge is trickier than other Assignments in Grasslands because it has an objective that may require multiple tries, specifically to prevent enemies from using Quick Nap.

The Fiend Intel 4: Wailing Weed Combat Assignment allows you to find Mandrakes, and despite their size, they can be quite annoying. Don’t worry though, because in this guide I’ll tell you what you must do to complete all objectives.

Where To Find the FFVII Rebirth Fiend Intel 4 in Grasslands

Wailing Weed, or Fiend Intel 4, is found southeast of Kalm City, as shown on the map below. It is located between Expedition Intel 4: Grasswastes Lifespring and Plains Tower, south of the Tresher Waterwheel Cache Location.

Fiend Intel 4 Wailing Weed is found southeast of Kalm City.

Travel to the location I have marked above, but before looking for the Mandrakes, rest at the nearby Chocobo Stop, which is also visible on my map above. Now, head to where this Combat Challenge takes place, and you’ll receive your objectives.

How To Prevent Mandrakes From Using Quick Nap

Preventing enemies from using Quick Nap is the trickiest objective in this Challenge; however, as you may remember from the Voracious and Venomous Combat Assignment, this applies only to your playing character.

Or, simply put, you have to prevent the Mandrakes from using Quick Nap on the character you control. Just so you know, the Mandrakes are weak to Fire and Ice Magic, but I don’t suggest using any of these while focusing on this objective. Instead, use Abilities to interrupt the Mandrakes.

The idea here is to hit the Mandrakes and switch between targets as fast as possible so you don’t give them time to cast Quick Nap. Cloud’s Triple Slash or Firebolt Blade abilities should be your first choice. Even light attacks in Operator Mode for Cloud are more than enough for this objective as long as you quickly move from one target to another.

To prevent and enemy from using quick nap, use light attacks and switch targets.

How To Stagger a Mandrake

The second objective requires you to stagger an enemy. This works hand-in-hand with the first objective with a tiny change. You must focus on a single target. The problem here is that Mandrakes are pretty weak, so if you use spells or strong attacks, you’ll kill the Mandrake before staggering it.

So, for this objective, you may need to retry the Challenge after you avoid the Quick Nap, but this time, you’ll focus all your light attacks on a single target. It is also worth switching your playing character and picking the one who inflicts less damage. Spells, especially those based on Fire and Ice, should not be used.

To stagger a Mandrake use light attacks only.

How to Defeat All Enemies Within the Time Limit

Although I doubt you’ll encounter difficulties with this objective, as you can guess, the best method to dispatch the Mandrakes faster is to use Spells. Both Fire and Ice work like a charm; however, because these creatures are very weak, this objective won’t require any retries and most likely will be the first you’ll complete.

After you finish the Wailing Weed Challenge, I recommend focusing on Expedition Intel 4 because it’s very close to your current location or entering the western desert region where Fiend Intel 5: Picky Eater awaits.

To defeat all enemies within the time limit, use fire and ice spells.
