Updated March 1, 2024

Piko is the first Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Chocobo you’ll have to catch and tame when you enter the Grasslands area east of Kalm City as part of a main scenario named Chocobo Wrangling. The cute bird also introduces the Chocobo Intel activities, which require you to find and tame different Chocobos.

Piko’s Chocobo Intel activity is named All-Rounders of the Grasslands and, as said, is part of the main story. You’ll be able to play the Chocobo Wrangling scenario after reaching Bill’s Ranch. So here is how to track down and catch Piko.

Where To Find Piko’s Tracks

After talking to Chloe at Bill’s Ranch in the Grasslands region, your objective is to follow the tracks to Piko. So, head outside Chloe’s barn and go to the main gate. Check the ground outside the Ranch, and you should see some large dark tracks.

Follow Piko's Treacks leading outside the Ranch and to the left.

To find Piko, you must follow them. So, as you exit the Ranch, head left and follow the road and the tracks in the mud. At the first crossroad, turn right and remain on the path that descends the hill ahead. In the distance, you should be able to spot a large clearing and several Chocobos.

As you approach, you’ll trigger a cutscene, and the Chocobo Wrangling main scenario starts. Let’s see what you must do to catch Piko in FFVII Rebirth.

How To Catch Piko in All-Rounders of the Grasslands

The minigame you are about to play is straightforward. Your objective is to get close to Piko without being spotted by the other Chocobos in the clearing. The first Chocobo marked below is easy to avoid because he doesn’t move at all.

Avoid the first Chocobo by maintaining a safe distance.

What you want to do is to remain crouched and move around him. The trick here is to maintain a safe distance (don’t get too close) and don’t roll. Just move around the bird and head to the field behind the Chocobo to reach the first checkpoint.

The second Chocobo is trickier because he turns around. So, what you have to do now is to wait for the bird to face away from your current location, which is the field behind the first Chocobo. Wait for the second bird to turn around, then move toward the next flower field (near Piko).

To avoid the second Chocobo move when the bird faces the other way.

When halfway through the clearing, you can roll because if you are far away from the Chocobo, the bird won’t hear you.

Now, you should be in the field behind Piko. While facing him, on the right side, you should spot some stones you can pick up. They are in the flower field marked accordingly. Grab one, and while remaining in the flower field, press L1 on your PlayStation controller to aim at the area behind Piko.

Your goal is to make Piko turn around. Press the Square button to throw the rock, and notice that Piko turns around, and a green bar appears under his name. The green bar indicates the time Piko will spend investigating the noise. Or simply put the time you have left to get behind him and press the Triangle button to catch him.

Distract Piko with a stone and get close to him when he is facing away.

After you catch Piko, return to Bill’s Ranch on foot, and you’ll learn how to summon and ride him.
