Iron is a Ghost of Tsushima crafting material and resource found while exploring the world, especially by clearing Mongol territories and camps.
Iron is an important material needed to upgrade Jin’s equipment. Jin can carry a total of 500 units of Iron in Ghost of Tsushima. Steel and Gold are two materials similar to this type of metal.

As a crafting material along with other types of metal, you’ll need Iron to upgrade Jin’s swords. This is done at any Swordsmith in a friendly village.
Where To Find Iron in Ghost of Tsushima
This metal can be considered the equivalent of Bamboo, meaning that it is very common, but it is used to upgrade swords. As you can see in the picture above, you will be able to get it as a reward for liberating the Mongol Outposts. On your map, they are represented by the smallest red dots.
You can also find a lot of Iron in the round Mongol Tents. Look around and fully investigate each area you liberate. Or, you can simply buy it from Trappers. The Azamo Bay Trapper, for example, will trade some for Supplies.
