The Quarry Prologue features a lot of choices you have to make when you start the video game developed by Supermassive Games, and even though you won’t be able to notice their effects immediately, as you progress through the story, your decisions play an important role.
Besides the fact that you’ll be able to unlock and update specific paths, The Quarry choices can also unlock new collectibles and decide the fates of the characters you meet. This means that if you are an achievement or trophy hunter, you’ll need multiple playthroughs to unlock all Quarry trophies/achievements.
The trickiest ones are Rough Night, which requires you to keep everyone alive, and Hackett’s Quarry Massacre, for which you’ll have to kill everyone.
Aside from these two, some additional trophies and achievements require you to perform specific actions, such as Mutually Assured, which unlocks when Laura and Travis kill each other. For this trophy, for example, you must make particular choices in Chapters 7 and 9.
So, as you can see, The Quarry is a decision-based video game, and your choices matter; therefore, throughout the following The Quarry Prologue walkthrough, we’ll go over the choices you should make to unlock all trophies and achievements in the game.
Before we start, though, it’s worth knowing that while this Quarry walkthrough is created to help you keep all characters alive at the end of the game, it also outlines the choices you can make to kill everyone, as well as the decisions that will help you unlock other trophies/achievements.
For the latter, you’ll need to use the Chapter Select option after you finish the game the first time, but be advised that the Chapter Select gets locked after you start another playthrough and forces you to finish the game again. So, multiple playthroughs are required.
The Quarry Prologue Best Choices & Decisions
The Quarry Prologue starts with Max and Laura heading towards Hackett’s Quarry Summer Camp and having a little debate inside the car, with Laura claiming they are lost. As they drive, pay attention to Max because he’ll eventually hit an obstacle on the road. When this happens, get ready to push the left thumbstick up so that Laura can catch the phone mid-air.
Pick Leaflet or Pick Map Choice
Moments after catching the phone, Laura looks at the backseat, and you have to choose between picking the Leaflet or the Map. Later in the Prologue, you’ll need the Map, so make sure you choose it instead of the Leaflet.
As Laura inspects the Map, she distracts Max, and he eventually loses control of the car. Make sure you are ready for another QTE and push the right thumbstick to the right to avoid the tree trunk. With the car broken, Laura and Max need to find a way to fix it. While Max works on the car, you’ll be able to control Laura. The first thing you’ll want to do as she gets out of the car is to check the trunk.
Pick Snoop after opening the trunk, and you’ll find a Rejection Letter for Max, who did not make it to Landis Univerisity. Upon reading the letter, head back to Max and interact with the marker in front of the car.
Defiant or Compliant Choice
After talking to Max, you’ll get another Prologue dialogue choice. Instead of Defiant, pick Compliant, as there is no need to argue with him. While Max tries to fix the car, Laura investigates the forest nearby. There are no choices while doing this, but there are four collectibles you have to find.
Make sure you follow the Prologue collectible locations guide to get all of them, and do not leave the forest until you find these items because you won’t be able to return unless you restart the game. Once you clear the area, Laura will eventually get scared, and a small running sequence starts. There are 2 QTEs during the chase, and you don’t want to miss them:
- Pull the right thumbstick towards you to avoid the branch
- Push the right thumbstick away from you to avoid the root
Police Officer Travis Dialogue Choices
Once you escape the forest, Laura reunites with Max, and a new character is introduced. He is a police officer named Travis who will start asking questions. The dialogue choices are pretty important while playing the next Quarry Prologue section. So, here is how to answer the cop’s questions:
- Honest – Something jumped out
- Honest – It was dark
- Friendly – We’re heading to camp
- Compliant – We’ll head to the motel
The idea behind these Quarry Prologue dialogue choices is to trick the police officer into showing Laura where Hackett’s Quarry Summer Camp is while playing safe. If you choose these, Travis will remain calm, but using the Map you found earlier, he’ll show you where the camp can be found.
Once Travis leaves, pick Relieved – That guy was weird, and you’ll get to Hackett’s Quarry Summer Camp. While at Hackett’s Quarry Summer Camp entrance, Laura and Max have another debate, and Max will eventually head back to the car.
You’ll play as Laura, and the next thing you’ll want to do is descend the stairs. Head right to check the board (marked below), then head to the basement’s entrance under the porch.
Wrenches or Hammer Choice
As Laura investigates the basement, she calls Max to help her open the door. Here, you’ll be given the option to choose the hammer or the wrenches. To progress, you’ll want to pick the Wrenches and then remain Confident, so go with the Yeah, saw it online choice.
Once inside the basement, there isn’t much to do. Just pick the collar in the middle of the room. This item is the last of the five collectibles in the Prologue, and once you pick it up, you’ll trigger a cutscene.
Leave or Help Max Choice
At the end of the cutscene, you’ll be given an important choice, and you’ll want to Help Max for obvious reasons. This choice will end the Prologue, and you’ll see a familiar face. To progress to The Quarry Chapter 1, during the intermission, you’ll get to meet an old woman, and you have to pick Move On while talking to her.
