Outriders is far from being a bug-free video game, but the Detour quest in Deadrock Pass features a glitch that can ruin your experience for good, meaning that you won’t be able to progress through the story unless you know how to fix it; simply because you won’t be able to clear the road and escort Marshal Bailey and her captive to Trench Town.
Obviously, without completing the Outriders Detour quest, you can’t move forward with your adventure on Enoch, which means that, most likely, you’ll spend hours looking for a bug fix. Since the video game developed by People Can Fly is quite new, a bug fix for the Outriders Detour quest glitch may take some time, so until then, the only thing you can do is revisit the previous regions.
Except that an Outriders Detrour Bug Fix already exists, and even though it may not work for everyone, if you are stuck with the Clear the Road objective, it’s worth trying since there is nothing else you can do until the devs patch it.
And obviously, below, I’ll tell you how to fix the Detour quest in Outriders, just in case you get stuck like I did. But let’s start from the beginning.
What Is the Outriders Detour Quest Bug (Clear the Road Glitch)
The Outriders Detour bug is actually a glitch that occurs when you play the first quest in Deadrock Pass. The said quest (Detour) starts in your Deadrock Pass Camp and continues the moment you enter Mountain Road on your way to the Lumber Station.
As you’ll notice, you’ll be in a lumber mill facility, and your objective is to escort Marshal Bailey and her captive to Trench Town. To do so, however, you’ll have to clear the way on Mountain Road; hence, a lot of people call this the Outriders Clear The Road Bug. Regardless of its name, though, as you fight your way toward the Mountain Tunnel Explorer Flag, you’ll eventually notice that the said Flag is in a cave.
The bug or the glitch now steps in your way, and normally, you should be able to remove the rocks in my image above using your Outrider’s impressive power. Except that you can’t because, as you can see, they are not highlighted.
What Is Causing the Clear the Road Bug
This game bug is caused by an enemy that fails to spawn. Basically, if you encounter this, most likely you did not encounter him because he failed to spawn. Or because he’s busy doing something else. The enemy in question is the Outlaw Leader you see in the next screenshot.
The only way to clear the obstacle at the cave’s entrance is to kill this mini-boss. But since he is not spawning, it means that there is no one to kill; hence, you can’t Clear the Road for the Detour quest. And this leads to a premature end to your journey on Enoch. Good, so now that we know what or who is causing this, let’s see how to fix it. Or how to make this mini-boss spawn.
Clear The Road Bug Fix
Normally, the first thing you’ll want to do is to travel back to the Deadrock Pass Camp and try replaying the whole area; however, even though this is a valid option, it may not work. You can also try to re-install the game, turn off the console, and other solutions, but that Outlaw Leader may still remain hidden. Why?
Because you actually have to reset the quest. The fix that actually worked in my case is a bit faster, especially because the Outriders Detour Clear The Road bug occurs at the very beginning of this region. As such, here is what you need to do:
- Press Options to bring up the game’s menu
- Choose Return To Lobby
- Now, go to Select Story Point
- Finally, pick the Explore The Area and Depart When Ready Story Point
You can see this option below.
When the game reloads, you’ll be brought back to the Deadrock Pass Camp, and all you have to do is talk to Jakub and tell him you are ready to go. Again, you’ll have to clear the way in the Mountain Road, but the Outlaw Leader should be there. If not, you’ll have to repeat the same steps mentioned above in order to make him spawn.
