Within the depths of the Underdark in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will come across the ruins of the Arcane Tower, brimming with enigmatic secrets. However, before you can delve into its secrets, there is a small task at hand – the elevator needs some fixing. Once you’ve successfully repaired it, you’ll gain access to the BG3 Arcane Tower Basement.

Where To Find the Arcane Tower in the Underdark

To find the Arcane Tower, you’ll want to embark on a thrilling journey into the depths of the Underdark. This mysterious tower can be found at the following coordinates: X: -9, Y: -285, nestled southwest of the Underdark beach.

There are a few different paths you can take to access the Underdark, each with its own unique charm. One option is to make your way through the Shattered Sanctum and solve the Defiled Temple Stone Discs Puzzle to reach the Underdark – Selunite Outpost.

Another route involves leaping down into a chasm located at X: -540, Y: -361, found within the spider cave beneath the Blighted Village. To reach the spider cave, climb down the well in the Blighted Village. Once you enter the cave, be prepared for a battle against a bunch of spiders spiders.

I recommend reaching at least level 4 before venturing into the Underdark and exploring the secrets of the Arcane Tower. Now, let’s see how to get to the Arcane Tower Basement in Baldur’s Gate 3.

How To Disable the Arcane Turrets

When you approach the mysterious tower, two turrets will target your party. Disable the Arcane Turrets temporarily using lightning damage spells, arrows, or Sussur Blossom flowers found near the tower’s ruins or west of the Myconid colony. To deactivate the turrets, just throw a Sussur Blossom flower near them.

How To Fix the Arcane Tower Elevator

Inside the tower, you will find a broken elevator preventing access to other levels. To fix the Arcane Tower Elevator, you need a Sussur Blossom flower. One can be found on a tree behind the tower. Go around the tower, jumping on the giant mushrooms. Use a character/companion with high dexterity for bigger leaps.

Jump across the giant mushrooms to reach the back of the Arcane Tower.

Collect the Sussur Blossom flower from the tree and unlock the rear door of the tower with lockpicking to enter the tower’s lowest level.

Here, you’ll find the broken elevator. Interact with its generator, insert the Sussur Blossom flower, and press combine. A short cutscene will play, deactivating all turrets inside and fixing the elevator. Now, you can explore the tower and use the elevator to move between floors.

How to Unlock the Arcane Tower Basement in BG3

To get to the Arcane Tower Basement, you must obtain the Guiding Ring from a robot on the tower’s top floor. Before going there, thoroughly explore the first three levels. Start from the bottom, read all the books, and use Left-Alt to find them easily. Once you’ve read enough, take the elevator to the final floor.

You’ll reach the top when Bernard, a magical robot, approaches you and speaks in Shakespearean style. If you want to avoid combat, you must read the poem books on the lower levels of Arcane Tower, including the following:

  • Threadbare Book
  • Torn-Out Paper
  • The Road to Darkness

Choose the line “Or art thou friend, a rescue from my lonely wake?” when you first start talking to Bernard. This will prevent the robots from becoming hostile.

Choose the first dialogue option to be friendly with Bernard and get the Guiding Ring.

If you’ve checked out the previous levels and read all the poem books, you’ll come across this dialogue option: “How can I trust? How will I ever know? / How can I reveal my true self?“. If you select this line, Bernard will respond in a similar way and give you the Guiding Ring as a reward.

However, if you choose the “There is light in every living thing. / It’s crawling t’wards the surface to survive.“, you might find yourself facing a tough challenge as Bernard and the other constructs will come after you. Check out our BG3 Bernard Boss guide for additional help.

Once you have the Guiding Ring in your inventory, equip it to unlock a secret button on the elevator to access the Arcane Tower basement.
