Baldur’s Gate 3 Investigate the Selunite Resistance is one of the side quests available in the Shadow-Cursed Lands, where you have to explore a big part of the region to discover its old secrets. To make it clear from the start, the BG3 Investigate the Selunite Resistance quest doesn’t offer game-changing loot.
However, it provides an in-depth look into the history of the Shadow-Cursed Lands, giving a bit more context to the current events in the region. So, this Baldur’s Gate III guide will walk you through how to complete the Investigate the Selunite Resistance quest with minimal spoilers.
How To Start the BG3 Investigate the Selunite Resistance Quest
One of the most challenging parts of Investigate the Selunite Resistance quest is finding its starting location. In order to begin the quest, you must search for a locked chest in the Abandoned Potter’s Workshop of the Shadow-Cursed Lands map.
The exact location is highlighted with a custom map marker labeled “Quest Location” in the image below.
Once you reach the marked location in the old and ruined building filled with pots, you will find the locked chest called Potter’s Chest located on a platform. Please refer to the image below. Reaching the section can be a bit tricky. You can either jump with a high-strength character (such as Karlach), destroy the pots blocking the path, or use the Shadow Step spell.
You also have to options two unlock the Potter’s Chest in Baldur’s Gate 3, as follows:
- Lockpick the chest with a high-dexterity character for a higher chance of success.
- Use the Potter’s Chest Key located behind a “Moveable Brick” at the workshop’s entrance. One of your characters must successfully pass an automatic Perception check to reveal the Moveable Brick.
Upon opening the chest, you will find a note mentioning Halfred, the Moonmaiden, and the Last Light Inn. Reading the note will prompt a quest marker to appear at the Last Light Inn as part of the Investigate the Selunite Resistance quest.
How To Investigate Last Light Inn
Once you return to the Last Light Inn, head to the main building where the bar and refugees are located. Before entering, turn right, and you will see a set of stairs. Descend the stairs, and you will reach the docks of the Inn.
On the eastern side of the docks, enter through the Door to access the Cellar area of the Last Light Inn. Inside the basement, enter the room on the left and destroy the crates and the spider web with melee attacks to reveal the Double Oak Doors.
In this small storage area, you’ll find nothing but crates and wooden barrels. But on the western side of storage, you’ll see a Cracked Wall and a Smokepowder Barrel near it. Ignite the Smokepowder Barrel with a Fire Bolt or an Arrow of Fire to destroy the Cracked Wall. Ensure your character doing the job stays in the opposite corner to avoid getting burnt and blown up.
The Cracked Wall leads to a cavern filled with Meenlocks. Beware, as they can inflict Fear and impose Disadvantage on nearby targets. It’s best to fight them from a distance. After defeating the Meenlocks, look for an altar in the back of the cavern. On the altar, you will find the Halfred’s Note.
Upon reading Halfred’s Note, you will have to proceed with your investigation at the Masons Guild as part of the BG3 Investigate the Selunite Resistance quest.
How To Investigate the Masons’ Guild
The Masons’ Guild is located northeast of the Statue Puzzle in Reithwin Town, as shown in the image below. Upon arriving at the Masons Guild, head to the northwest corner of the building, where you will find an Ornate Wooden Hatch on the ground.
Interact with the hatch to access a secret area beneath the Masons’ Guild. Move towards the other side of the room to trigger an automatic Perception check, revealing the Keyholed Herald.
The Keyholed Herald can be opened by either lock picking or using the Tower-Shaped Key. If you can’t pick the lock, convince Mattis (the child tiefling) located at Last Light Inn to give you the Tower-Shaped Key.
After passing the Keyholed Herald, you’ll find a Note from the Mason on the wall congratulating you for discovering this and informing you that your journey will end here. Moving deeper into the dungeon, you’ll have to fight against a few Shadows and a Wraith, but note that this fight is more accessible than the one against the Meenlocks. Once you’ve taken them down, check the large rectangular table in the center of the dining area for a book called Mason’s Log.
Reading Mason’s Log will complete the Investigate the Selunite Resistance in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, there are plenty more quests and mysteries to be solved around the Shadow-Cursed Lands. If you need additional help with them, feel free to use our BG3 Wiki Hub Page here.
