If you decide to save the Tieflings during Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate 3, you will discover that not all of them have survived the trip to Baldur’s Gate once you arrive at the Last Light Inn in the Shadow-Curse Lands. Also, while making your way to the Moonrise Towers via the Underdark, you will learn more about Wulbren, an Ironhand Gnome who is also held captive in the Moonrise Towers.

To complete these two quests, you will have to locate the Wulbren and the Tieflings in Moonrise Towers and help them escape from captivity. So, this guide will assist you in locating the Moonrise Towers and rescuing Wulbren and the Tieflings in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Where to Find the BG3 Moonrise Towers Prison

The Moonrise Towers are located in the southwest corner of the Shadow Cursed Lands region.

To enter the region, you need to complete the Seek Protection from the Shadow Curse quest and receive the Moonlantern that will help you reach the area. When you arrive at the Moonrise Towers, a True Soul guarding the front door will direct you to the main audience chamber as part of the Infiltrate Moonrise Towers main quest.

However, you can bypass the conversation and go straight to the Moonrise Towers Prison without speaking to Ketheric Thorm. Look for a room to the west of the throne with a blood-stained trail leading to a set of stairs.

Go west of the throne room and follow the blood trail to find a set of stairs.

Interact with the stairs to enter the Moonrise Towers Prison.

How to Rescue Wulbren and the Tieflings in Baldur’s Gate III

After entering the Moonrise Towers Prison, speak with Lia, one of the tieflings captive in Cell Four. Interacting with prisoners may anger the guards patrolling the prison, but a DC14 Persuasion or Deception check can persuade them that you are allowed to speak with them.

To talk to prisoners without upsetting the guards, just make a DC14 Persuasion or Deception check.

After convincing the guard, Lia informs you that the gnomes are up to something to escape and urges you to speak with them. As you continue through the cells, you come across Wulbren in Cell Two, who is curious about how you were able to command the guards as if you were the Absolute herself. Then, he asks about your business with them.

If you choose to help them for free, he will want to know why. You can tell him about Barcus if you rescued him during Act 1 or attempt a DC10 Persuasion or Deception check. When successful, Barcus will ask for tools to help the gnomes break through the weak stone wall at the back of their cells. The Warden confiscated their tools so the search could start there.

But you can also provide them a weapon that deals bludgeoning damage to break the stone wall. You’ll see platforms circling around a tower in the middle of the prison. Climb them up all the way to the top to reach a room with a Scrying Eye patrolling the area. Enter Turn-Based Mode and kill the Scrying Eye from behind to avoid being detected, then pick up Wulbren’s Hammer off the nearby table. Refer to the image below for the exact location of the hammer.

Grab Wulbren's Hammer from the table.

Before returning the hammer to Wulbren, it is recommended to bring the whole party to the bottom floor of this tower, close the door, and put The Warden to rest forever. Also, make sure to pick up the Spellcrux Amulet and Moonrise Guard’s Key from the Warden’s body.

You can free the Tieflings and Wulbren by interacting with the levers behind the Warden’s desk now that she is gone. But, for a successful escape without casualties, it is recommended to take out the guards and the Scrying Eyes before bringing back the hammer to Wulbren. Once the area is safe, the prisoners will head to the pier and sail a sloop to escape. During the conversation on the pier, you can guide them to the Last Light Inn.

Once it's safe, the prisoners will head to the pier and sail away on a sloop to escape.

After arriving at the Last Light Inn, the Harper guards will conduct a security check, ensuring they are not infected. Once everything is clear, talk to Alfira to claim your reward for rescuing the tieflings, including a nice amount of gold and the Potent Robe, perfect for Charisma-casters like Bards, Sorcerers, and Warlocks.

Speak to Alfira to claim your reward for saving the tieflings.

Also, find Barcus and give him the good news about Wulbren, then listen to the conversation between them to finish the BG3 Rescue Wulbren quest. And that’s how you can rescue Wulbren and the Tieflings from the Moonrise Towers Prison in Baldur’s Gate 3. For more helpful guides like this one, check out our Wiki Hub Page here.
