The Champions Chain is a unique, rare necklace accessory in Baldur’s Gate 3 that offers a valuable bonus to the wearer. Equipping this amulet provides a bonus to Intimidation checks, which can be really useful in social situations and when making dialogue choices.
How To Get the Champions Chain in BG3
To obtain the Champions Chain in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to complete a quest involving the Myconid Colony and the Underdark. Just follow these steps to get this useful amulet:
Step 1: Gain Access to the Underdark
In Act 1, you’ll need to find an entrance to the Underdark. The quickest option is heading to the Blighted Village and going down the well. Then, find the Whispering Depths waypoint and head northwest. Use the Feather Fall spell on your party and jump down the chasm to reach the Underdark. Now, just go directly northwest to find the Myconid Colony.
Step 2: Speak to Sovereign Spaw
Once you’re in the Myconid Colony, make sure to speak with Sovereign Spaw. He’ll give you the Defeat the Duergar Intruders quest to take down some Duergar at the Underdark – Beach waypoint.
Step 3: Defeat the Duergar
Head over to the Underdark Beach and defeat the Duergar invaders, including Gekh Coal. During this quest, you’ll even have Glut, a Myconid, join your party and help you in the fight.
Step 4: Help Glut Become the New Sovereign
After you’ve taken care of the Duergar, Glut will ask for your help in becoming the new Sovereign. Agree to help him in his quest for power.
Step 5: Attack and Defeat Spaw
Return to the Myconid Colony and prepare for an epic battle against Sovereign Spaw. You’ll find that all the Myconids will become aggressive, but fret not! There’s no need to waste your time dealing with each and every one of them. Instead, direct all your attention and efforts towards Spaw alone. Once you’ve successfully taken him down, the other Myconids will immediately stop being hostile, and Glut will step up as the new Sovereign.
Step 6: Deliver True Soul Nere’s Head
Speak with Glut, who will then ask you to deliver the head of True Soul Nere. You can find Nere trapped in a Cave-In in the Abandoned Refuge. Find explosives around the Grymforge to free him from the rubble. Alternatively, look for Philomeen’s hiding spot to obtain a Runepowder Vile. Then, take care of Nere however you see fit and retrieve his head.
Step 7: Return to Glut
Head back to the Myconid Colony and bring Nere’s head to Glut. As a token of appreciation, Glut will reward you with the BG3 Champions Chain.
Tips for Using the BG3 Champions Chain
- Consider your party members’ strengths and abilities. Give the Champions Chain to a character with high Charisma, like a Sorcerer or Warlock, to maximize the Intimidation bonus.
- Use the Tyrant Tongue ability strategically. This feature gives a +2 bonus to Intimidation once per Long Rest. Save it for important moments where an Intimidation check can make a big difference.
- Combine it with a Soldier background. If your character has the Soldier background, the Intimidation difficulty check gets an extra boost. This combo can make intimidating NPCs or enemies easier and more successful.
- Try different dialogue choices. With the Champions Chain equipped, explore different dialogue options during conversations. The Intimidation bonus might open up new paths, offer alternative solutions, or unlock hidden quests and rewards.
