Baldur’s Gate 3 Self-Same Trial is the second trial in a series of three available in the Gauntlet of Shar. The Self-Same Trial can be punishing if you’ve put together a great party. That’s because the goal is to defeat all enemies, but they are exact copies of your current party.

Fortunately, we’ve found a couple of cheese methods to exploit this feature to our advantage. So, follow our guide for Baldur’s Gate 3 to learn how to complete the Self-Same Trial quickly.

Where To Find the BG3 Gauntlet of Shar Self-Same Trial

The Self-Same Trial is located northwest of the Gauntlet of Shar waypoint and north of the Soft-Step Trial, behind a Bulky Door.

BG3 Self-Same Trial Location Map

To reach the Gauntlet of Shar waypoint, you must solve the Grand Mausoleum puzzle in the northeastern corner of the Shadow-Cursed Lands. When you enter the Gauntlet of Shar, solve the Umbral Gem puzzle by interacting with the four levers and eight Mystic Thuribles. Follow our guide to avoid the traps.

After defeating the Umbral Tremors and Dark Justiciars in the following area, go west to activate the Gauntlet of Shar waypoint and head north down the stairs. Look for the second door on the west side of the corridor. A plaque on the floor before the door reads “Her Most Hallowed Mercy “.

Once you go through the Bulky Door, let’s see how we can tackle the BG3 Self-Same Trial with ease.

How To Solve the Self-Same Trial in Gauntlet of Shar

As we already mentioned, to complete the Self-Same Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must defeat the exact copies of your current party. The clones of your current party will have all your gear, spells, feats, everything. How can we turn this to our advantage?

Split your party members and leave the weakest companion in the Self-Same Trial lobby with the Sacrificial Bowl. Then, take the rest of your party members outside of the trial. If there’s only one party member inside the Self-Same Trial when you perform the blood sacrifice at the Sacrificial Bowl, the trial will clone only that party member.

However, the rest of your party will be locked outside the trial. Don’t pull the lever to open the door, or you’ll reset the trial. Instead, you can lockpick the Bulky Door with a Sleight of Hand DC20 and bring your party for a 4v1 fight.

Now, you can sneak your whole party behind the single-cloned enemy to surprise him and take initiative. After you defeat the cloned enemy, pick up the Umbral Gem off the ground and interact with the Umbral Transporter near a brazier at the top of the stair tower to travel back to the Sacrificial Bowl outside the arena.

If you have trouble opening the Bulky Door with the Sleight of Hand DC20, there is another cheese method. Bring all your party members near the Sacrificial Bowl and strip them of all their gear. Everything.

Then, select one of your party members to perform a blood sacrifice. After completing the sacrifice, the Self-Same Trial will copy your party members without the gear on them. Now, equip back all your gear and head for an easy fight against the naked cloned enemies.

And that’s everything you need to know about how to complete the Gauntlet of Shar Self-Same Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3. However, you have one more trial to pass: the Faith-Leap Trial. Also, make sure to visit our Wiki Hub Page if you’re interested in learning more helpful information about the game.
