To begin the Find Rolan in the Shadows quest in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must first rescue the Tieflings and Wulbren from Moonrise Towers. It is important to note that while Wulbren is not necessary for Find Rolan in the Shadows quest, rescuing the other Tieflings is crucial, and they must return to the Last Light Inn to trigger the quest. Upon their return to the inn, one of the tieflings, Lia or Cal, will mention that he has gone missing.

He took it upon himself to venture to Moonrise Towers in order to rescue his family, but he went alone. Now, you must decide whether to search for him or not. How To Find Rolan in the Shadows

During the Find Rolan in the Shadows quest in BG3, Rolan can be found to the southwest of the Shadowed Battlefield Waypoint. He is located at the end of a path to the left of the bridge before reaching the Tollhouse, where you must fight the Gerringothe Thorm. Check the image below for his exact location.

Once you reach Rolan’s location, he is likely to be attacked by two Shadows. Your job will be to safeguard him. Even though the fight isn’t filled with as much action as the previous ones, you must always ensure his safety during the battle.

Once you have rescued Rolan and spoken to him, he may feel down on himself, but the fact that he is alive is what really matters in this mission. After you finish the conversation with him, Rolan will make his way back to the Last Light Inn, where he will be with his family.
