Castle Dimitrescu Atelier Bells Puzzle is the third mandatory riddle you have to solve while playing Resident Evil 8 Village; otherwise, you won’t be able to progress through the story and help Ethan find Rose.
The Resident Evil Village Bells Puzzle is not as complicated as it may look at first sight, provided you know all the bells’ locations and you have spared some ammo while exploring the previous areas. However, if you encounter difficulties figuring out what to do with Dimitrescu’s Portrait in the Atelier, below we will cover this puzzle.
How To Enter the Resident Evil 8 Village Atelier
The Castle Dimitrescu Atelier, or the room where Dimitrescu’s Portrait is found, is quite accessible if you follow the game’s story. It’s in the northern wing and can be accessed via the Courtyard after Dimitrescu starts chasing you. This happens the moment you get Dimitrescu’s Key from her room, where she talks on the phone. You can see the said key below.

Now, with the key in hand, after a short chase, you’ll end up in the Courtyard. Follow the northern door to get to the Opera Hall. Here you’ll want to solve the Piano Puzzle on the first floor. On the second floor, make sure you get the Flower Swords Ball for the Labyrinth Puzzle already explained.
Now, enter the Library and deal with Dimitrescu’s daughter. Once you do that, get all five hidden items, and you’ll be able to get to the Hall of Joy, then the Atelier. Before moving on with our puzzle, keep in mind that there are a lot of collectibles in Castle Dimitrescu, and you may want to check this guide for their locations.
Atelier Bells Puzzle Solution
Good, so now that you have reached the Atelier, here is what you need to do in order to open Dimitrescu’s Portrait. Start by checking the note on the painting in the middle of the room. You can see it below, and it reads: “Let the five bells of this chamber ring out.”

What does it mean? Well, it means that there are five bells in the Atelier, and you have to make them ring. How? By shooting them, obviously. So, you’ll need at least five bullets for this puzzle. Ok, now that you know what’s your objective, let’s see where to find the 5 Resident Evil Village bells.
The moment you read the note, switch to the handgun if you have enough ammo. You’ll want to do this because the shotgun ammo is way more valuable than the handgun ammo, and you want to save it. Also, it is worth mentioning that you only need to hit a bell once, and if you hit it, you’ll see a flame above it. This means that the bell rang.
First Bell Location
The first bell is the hardest one because it moves. You can see it between the cogs behind the painting above. Make sure you take your time with this one so you don’t waste your ammo. If needed, count the seconds the bell needs to reach a specific spot.

Second Bell Location
The second bell is quite easy to find. As you can see in my image below, it’s on a round table near a small white statue depicting a man. You can also hit this one with your knife and save a bullet.

Third Bell Location
The third bell requires a bullet, and it can be found on the right side of the door between the Hall of Joy and the Atelier. The moment you enter, look to the right, and you’ll see it on the cabinet pictured below.

Fourth Bell Location
The fourth Resident Evil 8 Village bell is the trickiest because it’s outside. It requires two bullets and a steady hand. To find it, climb the stairs on the left side of the room and turn right to spot it behind the window in front of you. One thing to notice here is that the window you are about to break is one of the 19 Castle Windows required for the Hooligan trophy/achievement.

Fifth Bell Location
The final bell for this puzzle is more accessible, and you will spot it while looking for the previous one. It sits on top of the chandelier, and you can shoot it from your current location.

After you hit the fifth, the Bells Puzzle ends, and Dimitrescu’s Portrait opens. Now, the path ahead is clear, but don’t leave the area without the two hidden items. The next corridor leads you to the Attic, where you may want to find the remaining collectibles along with the seven Attic hidden items.
