Elden Ring Black Knife Catacombs is a side dungeon found in the northeast part of the Liurnia of the Lakes region and the home of not one but two bosses: Black Knife Assassin and Cemetery Shade.
The Black Knife Catacombs dungeon contains several skeleton enemies that will die in a certain way and guillotine across its rooms. Crabs have infested the sewers, with two massive crabs waiting for unwary prey. In addition, there are a few puzzles to complete in the Black Knife Catacombs, all of which lead to undiscovered Elden Ring areas.
Therefore, in this guide, we will show you how to reach and complete the Black Knife Catacombs in the video game developed by FromSoftware for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation.
Where to Find the Black Knife Catacombs
The Black Knife Catacombs are located northeast of Liurnia of the Lakes region.
The Catacombs can be found by riding along the mountain’s eastern border. Continue north, and the path to the Catacombs will become clear after passing the Ruined Labyrinth Site of Grace.
As you approach the Catacombs’ entrance, you notice a ghostly Golden Knight guarding the Catacombs. Because it is a rather difficult enemy to defeat, you can avoid it and proceed directly to the Catacombs. Then, immediately after entering, light the Site of Grace.
The Black Knife Catacombs are filled with Skeletons that you must kill as soon as they fall; otherwise, they will continue to resurrect. If the skeleton keeps resurrecting, no matter how hard you try to kill it, look for the Necromancer; killing the master will put an end to the Skeletons. Halfway down the stairs from the Site of Grace, you will find a skeleton that you can kill without killing his master.
At the bottom of the steps, you’ll find the catacombs’ sealed doors. When you pull the lever at the end of the catacombs, these doors will open, leading to the catacombs’ final boss fight. On the left, the path onward is down a short set of stairs.
There are two more skeletons at the bottom of these stairs, one at the crossroads and one farther down the tunnel, who will begin rolling towards you as soon as they notice you.
To kill these two skeletons, you will need to kill the Necromancer located further down the tunnel, in the guillotines’ room. To the left of this tunnel, there is a room sealed by an imp statue.
Inside, there are two skeleton enemies on the left side, and the Rosus’ Axe is on the body next to the tombstone. Going into the next room will take you to a room with several guillotines, two skeleton archers, and a Necromancer.
Clear the area and proceed into the next room, where you will find a skeleton and a ladder to go down to the sewer level. There are several non-hostile tiny crabs at the sewer level; they will drop crab eggs when killed. Going forward to the corpse will trigger the Giant Crabs to rise from the ground, one in front and one behind you.
After killing both Giant Crabs, loot the corpse to receive 1 x Rune Arc. To progress in these Catacombs, return to the room with the guillotines and ride a guillotine blade upwards to land on the platform above.
Once you reach the platform, kill the Necromancer and the Skeleton throwing flaming pots. Then, proceed to a large room with many statues of Erdtree Burial Watchdogs and multiple skeletons.
To kill these archer skeletons, look for the Necromancer behind them, somewhere to the right. Follow the path and hit the wall at the end of the path to reveal the doorway to the boss’ secret chamber of Black Knife Assassin.
The Black Knife Assassin boss moves quickly, escaping many hits as they move. They have two unique attacks that are simple to predict and avoid.
Defeat this boss to receive 3150 Runes, Black Knifeprint, and Assassin’s Cerulean Dagger. Return to the previous room with the vanishing wall to find a small pit hidden behind a Grave Glovewort on the left side.
Dropping down through this hole will lead you to the lever’s chamber at the sewer level. Pull the lever to open the heavy doors at the boss’ chamber and the other lever to open the gate to get out of the sewers.
Be aware of the Skeletons and the Giant Crabs spawning after reaching the sewer level and opening the gate. Head back to the beginning of the dungeon and go through the heavy doors that are now opened to start the boss fight against Cemetery Shade.
Defeating this boss will reward you 3500 Runes and the Twinsage Sorcerer Ashes. Also, there is a chest in the room that contains 1 x Deathroot. That’s everything you need to know to complete the Elden Ring Black Knife Catacombs. If you have any questions, drop them in the comments section below.
