Dung Eater is one of the most enigmatic Elden Ring characters, which has a quest for you to complete so you can gain the Blessing of Despair alternate ending. So, if you want to know how to complete the Dung Eater quest in the video game developed by FromSoftware, follow this guide to receive the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse and the Omen Set.
How To Start the Dung Eater Quest
The Dung Eater can be found for the first time at the Roundtable Hold, in the room past the Twin Maiden Husks, after reaching the Altus Plateau region.
Speak to him, and he will threaten to kill and defile you, and you won’t be able to start his quest until you find a Seedbed Curse. There are six Seedbed Curses in the game, three of which are in Leyndell, one in Volcano Manor, and two in Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree.
For the time being, you only need one, so once you’ve acquired it, return to Dung Eater in the Roundtable Hold to begin the quest.
Where To Find the Dung Eater in Sewer-Gaol
After obtaining a Seedbed Curse, when you speak to Dung Eater, he will offer you the Sewer-Gaol Key and tell you to locate his corpse in the sewers beneath Leyndell.
From the Avenue Balcony Site of Grace (center of Lyendell), head down the stairs through the double grate doors until you reach the bone tail of the dragon and a balcony on the left. Jump over the balcony and descend the wooden ladder located in the well.
Make your way through the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds until you find the Underground Roadside Site of Grace in a room on the left after dropping down from a platform with an iron ladder. From the Underground Roadside Site of Grace, take a left until you reach an open sewer grate (between the two ogres) and drop down.
Follow the path northwest, past the giant flowers, and climb the ladder. There will be a Giant Hand beneath the floor and a couple of Small Hands scattered around the ceiling in this area. Once you clear the area, go to the northwest end of the room to free the Dung Eater.
Speak with him until his dialogue is exhausted, then return to the Dung Eater at the Roundtable Hold.
Outer Moat Invasion
Once you reach his room, Dung Eater will have left you a message that says, “I’ll defile you next. Come to the outer moat”. He asks you to meet him for a fight at the Leyndell outer moat marked in the image below.
From the Capital Rampart Site of Grace (where you first enter Leyndell), head back outside and follow the path down past the giants. Turn left and continue down into the shallow water.
There will be a character named Blackguard here who you can talk to, and once you’ve exhausted his dialogue, reload the area (return to the main menu and back into the game). You will find him now tied to a chair, defiled by Dung Eater, and once you exhaust the dialogue, he will die, triggering the invasion.
NOTE: Make sure to complete the Rya’s Necklace Questline in Liurnia of the Lakes before triggering the invasion to receive one of the six Seedbed Curses from the Blackguard’s death.
After defeating Dung Eater, he will drop the Sword of Milos and return to the Roundtable Hold.
Where To Find Five Seedbed Curses
Speak to him again, and he will ask you to bring five Seedbed Curses (covered in-depth here) to his corporal body found in the Sewer Gaol below Leyndell, where you opened the gate.
After you’ve given him the five Seedbed Curses, Dung Eater will give you the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse, which you can use for the Blessing of Despair ending, and his questline will be completed. Once you receive the Mending Rune of the Fell Curse, reload the area (return to the main menu and back into the game), and you will find the Omen Set, where he gave you the rune.
