Elden Ring Lake Of Rot Location Guide

After slaying the Baleful Shadow during Ranni’s Quest in Elden Ring, you will enter the horrible Lake of Rot area. As the name suggests, the Lake of Rot is a lake filled with pure Scarlet Rot. Although the swamp does not slow your character down like other areas in the game, the Scarlet Rot accumulation is lethal if you don’t have the right tools to fight it.

In this guide, we’ve put together everything you need to know on how to cross the Lake of Rot and complete the area by collecting all the items.

Preparations (Recommended Items)

When you first arrive at the Lake of Rot, you’ll see that most of the region is a dense swamp, and stepping into it for too long will cause you to catch Scarlet Rot. Fortunately, the video game developed by FromSoftware offers several ways to cross the Lake of Rot.

The best way to cross the Rot of Lake is to use the Flame, Cleanse Me Incantation to remove the status effect immediately in combination with a Talisman called Immunizing Horn Charm +1, which will help alleviate its build-up. You can find Flame, Cleanse Me Incantation on one of the corpses at the Fire Monk camp, southeast of the Church of Vows (check the image below).

To use the incantation, you will need a Sacred Seal and 12 points of Faith. You can buy the Finger Seal from Twin Maiden Husks at the Roundtable Hold for 800 Runes.

If you don’t have 12 points of Faith, you can rebirth to put some points into Faith or use Godrick’s Great Rune to raise all attributes by +5. To obtain the Immunizing Horn Charm +1, you are looking for an Ancestral Follower wandering around the lake.

Head southeast from the site of grace and kill the Ancestral Follower to obtain the Immunizing Horn Charm +1. Also, you can loot a corpse near the water’s edge, slightly after the Site of Grace, which holds the Map: Lake of Rot, making navigation around the lake easier.

How To Cross the Lake of Rot in Elden Ring

Looking out into the lake, you can notice pillars standing on their islands in the distance. These tiny islands feature pressure plates that elevate landmasses in the lake, providing safe places to stand while exploring the Lake of Rot.

The closest pillar to you right now on the starting island should be to your southwest, and the next one should be to your south of the first. Near the lake’s center, ignore the boss for the time being and look for the last two pillars to elevate all landmasses in the lake, making item gathering and boss fighting easier and safer.

One of the landmasses raises the pressure plate with you to a higher level. Since you’re here, fight the Alabaster Lord to obtain his weapon, the Alabaster Lord’s Sword, and grab the Somber Smithing Stone [9] sitting on a corpse near the end of the top ruins.

On the east side of the pillar, a slope leads to a ladder that can help you climb down or get back up in case you die or fall off.

We can now deal with the Lake of Rot’s Boss now that we have all of the landmasses uplifted. The Dragonkin Soldier is in the lake’s center, near three raised small islands.
