Elden Ring Homing Instinct Painting is a key item you can find in the Artist’s Shack while exploring the Limgrave region in the video game developed by FromSoftware for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. The Elden Ring Artist’s Shack Homing Instinct Painting can be retrieved early in the game, and if you found it, you may wonder how to use it properly.
Well, if this is the case, throughout the guide below, we’ll cover the Homing Instinct Painting in Elden Ring, and I’ll tell you everything you need to know about it.
Where To Find the Homing Instinct Painting in Artist’s Shack
Let’s start with the Artist’s Shack location in Elden Ring because that’s where you can find the Homing Instinct Painting key item. As you can see on my map, the Artist’s Shack is on the northeastern side of the Limgrave region and can be visited when you unlock Torrent or your mount unless you want to walk.

Since there are no notable enemies nearby, simply head to that spot and activate the Artist’s Shack Site of Grace. Now, you’ll want to explore this small hut because there are several items you don’t want to miss:
- By the small fence in front of the hut, get the Gold-Tinged Excrement crafting material
- Next, head left around the shack to get Smithing Stone on the ground by a corpse
- Finally, head inside the shack and look at the large painting in my screenshot below

Now, if you examine the painting, you may recognize a familiar area, and this painting is actually a puzzle you have to figure out. Long story short, you want to find the location in the Homing Instinct Painting. Here is what you have to do next.
Where To Find the Location in the Homing Instinct Painting
After you get the Homing Instinct Painting, open your map and travel to the spot on my map below.

As you can notice, it is southeast of The First Step and Stranded Graveyard Sites of Grace and southwest of Dragon-Burnt Ruins. Here, on the cliffs overseeing the beach, you’ll find the ghost of a painter looking at the ruins above.
If you pay close attention to your surroundings, you’ll actually see that the ghost is looking at the exact archway that appears in the Homing Instinct Painting.

Now, approach the ghost, and it vanishes; however, the NPC leaves a small reward behind. Specifically, an Incantation Scarab you can retrieve.
