Elden Ring Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs is an optional dungeon found in the Mountaintops of the Giants region and home to the Ulcerated Tree Spirit boss. Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs can be confusing at first because of the repetition of the identical sets of rooms and the many elevators inside.
In this guide, we will show you how to get through the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs, collect all the loot, and open the doors of the boss room.
Where To Find the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs
The Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs are found in the Mountaintops of the Giants region in the video game developed by FromSoftware.
Once you reach the Mountaintops of the Giants region, make your way through the linear section of the area until you reach Zamor Ruins Site of Grace. From here, proceed west and follow the path north until you reach a narrow path surrounded by Fire Monk enemies.
Check to your right for a slope leading down to the side of this area. At the end of the slope, you will find the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs’ entrance.
After you’ve opened the door, get inside and activate the site of grace to begin.
From the Site of Grace, head down the two sets of stairs, and you will encounter an Imp hanging off the far wall, ready to leap onto you. Another Imp will be on the wall in the chamber ahead, and a second one will ambush you from the right after you enter.
Collect the Grave Glovewort [7], then turn around and head to the left. After defeating two more imps, one right in front of you and the other hanging on the ceiling, ready to ambush, you’ll find an elevator that will take you down.
Once you reach the bottom, pull the lever in the corner and wait for the elevator to reach the top. The elevator has another platform with arches around it that you can use to access a secret area of the catacombs.
Take the elevator down to reach the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs’ lowest level. In the next room, you will encounter an Imp and Lesser Burial Watchdog wielding a staff.
Once you take them out, you will find a Ghost Glovewort [8] to collect below the stairs. Proceeding into the next room, you will see a statue that will spray frostbite-inflicting breath as soon as you step a foot in the corridor.
You can disable the frost-breathing statue by hitting it using a ranged attack (for example, bow, daggers, or sorceries) or melee attack once you get close to it. If you can’t disable it with a ranged attack, take cover from the frost breath in the corridor to the left and avoid stepping on the pressure plate there.
Once you disable the trap, collect the Grave Glovewort [8] in the dead-end room at the end of the left corridor while being ambushed by two imps. Take advantage of the pressure plate trap to kill both Imps using the trap’s frostbite projectiles.
In the next corridor, past the disabled frost-breathing statue, there is another one at its end that you can disable the same. This time, the corridor used to take cover is hidden on the right, behind an illusory wall that you need to hit in order to reveal it. Be careful with the Imp hiding inside.
Behind the frost-breathing statue trap, you will encounter another Lesser Burial Watchdog wielding a sword this time. To defeat him, consider using the statue trap to your advantage. Once you’re done, there is a chest behind his initial location containing the Fire Monk Ashes.
Since this secret area is a dead-end, head back to the elevator and take it until you see the locked doors to the boss’ room. Turn left past these locked doors, kill the three Imps in the next room, and take the elevator down. You will reach a room with a green statue and a Giant Living Jar that you need to defeat.
Also, be aware of the small living jars along the way in the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs. Head through the west corridor and be careful with the pressure-plated dart trap halfway down the corridor.
In the next room, you will find several guillotines and exploding living jars. Make your way through the room and turn left to reach a section filled with Land Squirt enemies.
Run past them until you reach a dead-end room with a Great Living Jar you have to defeat and a Grave Glovewort [7] to collect. Next to the pressure plate trap in the room before, you will see a small alcove that you can use to drop down to the next area.
Loot the corpse hanging on the edge of the floor to receive a Nascent Butterfly. Below this floor, you will see a different square room with the same green statue filled with exploding living jars.
Take the corridor to the west, then pass the guillotines to find another Giant Living Jar to defeat and a Ghost Glovewort [8] to collect. Head up the stairs, past the Land Squirt enemies, including a giant one, until you reach the same dead-end room with another Giant Living Jar to defeat and a Grave Glovewort [7] to collect.
Also, again, be aware of the pressure plate trap in the middle of the room (not like me). Head through the small alcove and drop down the multiple ledges.
Now, you’ve returned to the second square room with the green statue after going in a small circle. Once you are in front of the green statue, head through the north corridor and take the elevator up.
Clear out the three Imps in the following room: one on the right wall, one on the left wall, and the last Imp on the ceiling before starting the fight with the Lesser Burial Watchdog, who’s wielding a sword.
After taking them out, loot the corpse to receive 5x Root Resin and collect the Grave Glovewort [9]. Now, return to the elevator and take it down. Pull the lever to send the elevator up, and you will see down the hole a Giant Living Jar and a couple more holes around the room that you can easily fall into.
Jump down and head through the south corridor before fighting the Giant Living Jar to avoid getting pushed off the platform through the holes. Heading through the corridor, you will reach the second floor of the first square room with the green statue.
Here, you will find a couple of small living jars, a corpse that you can loot to receive a Golden Rune [10], and the lever you need to pull to open the heavy locked doors of the boss’ room. After you pull the lever, drop down and head through the north corridor until you reach the elevator.
Make sure the platform is the one without the arches around it. In this case, pull the lever to bring the platform without the arches to take you back up and reach the Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs boss chamber.
Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs Boss Fight
The Giants’ Mountaintop Catacombs’ boss is the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, identical to the one found in the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave dungeon.
After defeating the Ulcerated Tree Spirit, you will receive 48.000 Runes, a Golden Seed, and the Glovewort Picker’s Bell Bearing [2]. There is also a chest in the boss room containing a Deathroot that you can give to Gurranq, Beast Clergyman found in Bestial Sanctum, in exchange for one of his valuable items.
