Almost five months after its release, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is far from being a bug-free game, and while devs focus on bringing new content to the table (such as Ostara Festival), one of the most annoying glitches persists. It is a glitch that is not only game-breaking but will also stop you from completing Of Blood And Bonds quest.
The AC Valhall Of Blood And Bond bug hunted me for the last five months and kept me away from the game simply because I couldn’t find a fix.
Until now, because I finally managed to beat the AC Valhalla story, thus I am ready to share with you guys a walkaround for it. But first, let me tell you how this Of Blood And Bonds quest bug or glitch affects players and why it is a game-breaking bug.
Of Blood And Bonds Halfdan Glitch
Also known as Of Blood And Bonds Halfdan glitch, this bug can be encountered at the end of the quest named Of Blood And Bonds quest when you (Eivor) have to witness Halfdan’s coronation. This coronation is taking place in Jorvik, and the game tells you that the coronation will only start when Halfdan is present.
Now, finding Halfdan is not hard as he is standing on the walls near the big hall where the coronation is about to start. The problem here is that Halfdan (pictured below) is not willing to participate in his coronation because he is dead, drunk, or he is sleeping.
You can take your pick here, but as you can see, he is just not going to move. And you can’t make him because you can’t interact with him. Basically, you won’t be able to do anything. As funny as this bug is at first, it becomes really annoying later because without being able to talk to Halfdan, you won’t be able to finish Of Blood And Bonds, thus the associated arc.
Furthermore, this means that you won’t be able to report to Randvi; hence, the whole story will stop for you. And yes, all achievements and trophies will remain locked because Halfdan decided it’s better to go prone and ignore everyone by sticking his head into the ground. And that’s the AC Valhalla Halfdan Bug that kept me from seeing how the story ends.
Ubisoft’s Of Blood And Bonds Bug Fix Answer
Now, you can imagine how frustrating it is to put up several hundreds of hours into AC Valhalla just to find Halfdan facing down on a wall, refusing to talk, walk or even feed his dog. So, you may want to know when Ubisoft will fix this bug because it’s a big one.
Well, the answer here is still unknown because, according to UbiExcellent (aka the Ubisoft Support Staff): “At this time, the teams are still investigating this issue, but we will continue to keep everyone here informed as soon as updates become available to us.”
This was posted four months after the game was released. Yes, four months for a bug/glitch that will stop you from finishing the game. But the good news is that you can focus on finding Easter Eggs, thanks to the new content the devs released. Or you can follow the guide below and force Halfdan to move. And that’s exactly what I am going to share with you.
Halfdan Glitch Solution
For this bug fix to work, it is mandatory to unlock the Dive of the Valkyries ability; otherwise, you won’t be able to make Halfdan move. The said ability allows Eivor to launch into the air and come crashing down onto his enemies. No, you won’t have to do this on Halfdan if that’s what you are asking.
Next, you’ll need some stamina or at least 2 bars (yellow) filled. Normally, you need only one, but let’s assume you won’t succeed the first time. And now for the element of surprise. Or the cherry on the cake. What you have to do is to set Halfdan on fire.
But here we have another problem because while next to him you won’t be able to use any weapons. So, you’ll have to find another way.
Open your map, and northeast of your location, you’ll see the Multangular Tower. It is in Jorvik, just across the Ouse River. Get there and look for a red barrel or an explosive jar. You can see two of them in my screenshot below, and there are also several enemies you can kill here to fill those stamina bars.
Now, obviously, you’ll have to carry the jar back to our dead Halfdan. It is a slow journey, but definitely worth it. Just make sure you don’t drop it. When near Halfdan, place the jar next to his body and perform a Dive of the Valkyries close to it. This will make the jar explode, and Halfdan will start burning like a torch.
Possible Outcomes
As you can guess, there are several possible outcomes you should be aware of. I’ll list them below so you know what you have to do:
- If Halfdan is not moving, go back and get another jar, then repeat the same procedure.
- Assuming you manage to set him on fire, he’ll move to another area, and he will drop to the ground. If that’s the case, try to pick up his body.
- If you can’t, set him on fire again.
- On the other hand, if you manage to grab him, take him to the throne room and place his body near the throne.
- Now a cutscene should start, and Of Blood And Bonds quest continues.
- If the cutscene doesn’t start, move around and mash the interact button (triangle on PS4/PS5).
Finally, as you can see in my image below after I set Halfdan on fire, he jumped over the wall, obviously facing the ground.
The good thing is that I managed to carry his body and finally finished Of Blood And Bonds quest. Thanks to Xbox user MetSPECIAL, not Ubisoft.
How are u able to pick up his body ???? i´ve burned him 4 times now and STILL cant pick up his body : /
It’s a tedious process. When you set him on fire he should start running to another location. See the last image. So you’ll have to follow him as he will go prone again, but you should be able to pick him up. If he doesn’t keep setting him on fire.
Well it bloody worked.
thankksss
