Hogwarts Legacy Professor Garlick’s Assignment 2 Combat Plants

Professor Garlick’s Assignment 2 in Hogwarts Legacy is the second and final Assignment you must complete for your Herbology teacher at Hogwarts, and it’s also one of the most time-consuming Assignments in the video game.

That’s because Hogwarts Legacy Professor Garlick’s Assignment 2 features a task that requires you to wait 15 minutes in real-time. Your patience, however, won’t go unrewarded because by completing Garlick’s second Assignment, you can unlock one of the 34 Spells in Hogwarts Legacy. Professor Garlick’s Assignment 2 becomes available after you complete The Map Chamber story quest.

Assuming you have finished Professor Garlick’s Assignment 1, you probably know you should be waiting for a letter via your Owl Post.

When you are notified that the letter has arrived, open your Owl Post Tab in the Field Guide and select Professor Garlick’s icon to see all the letters you received from her. The second one provides some information about the Spell you’ll learn:

“How would you like to learn the Knockback Jink, Flipendo? Once you’ve completed the necessary tasks, come find me in the Greenhouse.”

So, by completing this Assignment, you’ll get to learn Flipendo. Now, check the Quests Tab, and you’ll see the two tasks Professor Garlick wants you to complete:

• Grow and harvest Fluxweed
• Acquire all three combat plants and use them simultaneously

Let’s go over these two tasks in order and see what you must do.

How To Grow and Harvest Fluxweed

To grow and harvest Fluxweed in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need Fluxweed Seeds and the correct Potting Table. So, open your map and navigate to Hogsemade Map. In the village, you’ll need to visit two Shops. The first one is the Tomes and Scrolls Shop on the southern side of the village (pictured below).

Fast-travel to the closest Floo Flame you have unlocked, and visit Thomas Brown. From him, you’ll want to buy the  Potting Table With A Large Pot Spellcraft, which costs 1000 Galleons. Remember to sell some of the gear you no longer use if you don’t have enough money.

Great! Now that you have the Potting Table, you’ll need to get the seeds. The Hogwarts Legacy Fluxweed Seeds are sold by Timothy Teasdale, who runs the Magic Neep Shop on the western side of Hogsmeade. Visit him and get ready to pay 350 Galleons for a pack of seeds.

Awesome! Now you have everything you need, so it’s time to plant the seeds. To do this, you’ll need to return to the Room of Requirement. Open your map, navigate to Hogwarts Map, then select the Secret Rooms from the list of available Floo Flames. Finally, select the Room of Requirement, and you’ll be teleported to your private room.

As you can guess, next, you’ll need to place the Potting Table, so follow these steps:

• Equip the Conjuring Spell by pressing Right on your DPad
• Cast the Conjuring Spell by pressing R2/RT + button assigned to your Spell
• Select the Herbology Icon
• Pick the Large Potting Tables from the list in the upper right corner
• Select one of the Potting Tables available and place it anywhere in the room, in an unobstructed spot

Remember that you need 10 Moonstones to conjure the Potting Table. These crafting materials are common, and you can obtain them by destroying the crystals found while exploring the world. Now that you have placed the Potting Table, interact with it and select the Fluxweed Seeds to plant a Fluxweed.

As you can notice in the screenshot above, Fluxweed needs 15 minutes in real time to grow. So, until you can harvest it, let’s deal with the second task.

How To Acquire All Three Combat Plants and Use Them Simultaneously

To acquire all three combat plants and use them simultaneously in Hogwarts Legacy Professor Garlick’s Assignment 2, you’ll need to spend more Galleons. The Combat Plants are:

• Venomous Tentacula
• Mandrake
• Chinese Chomping Cabbage

Luckily, all of them can be obtained from the same shop, Dogweed and Deathcap, located in the northern Hogsmeade. You may remember it from Professor Garlick’s Assignment 1. So visit the shop and buy all three plants for a total of  1400 Galleons.

Obviously, you can also grow them in the Room of Requirement after buying the seeds from the same shop. Now, after you get all three plants, assuming you opted for the first method, exit the Dogweed and Deathcap shop and start equipping them by pressing the L1/LB button and using the Right Thumbstick.

After selecting one of the combat plants, release L1/LB, and the combat plant should be equipped in your Tool slot (lower left corner of the screen). Finally, press L1/LB to release the plant, then select the second one and equip it. After releasing the second one, repeat the same process with the third plant. The idea here is to use them at the same time, even if not in combat.

Start with the Venomous Tentacula, followed by the Chinese Chomping Cabbage, and finally, the Mandrake.

After you finish the second task, return to the Room of Requirement and harvest the Fluxweed. If needed, wait until it grows. Great job. Now it’s time to collect your reward, and for this, you’ll want to visit Professor Garlick, located in the Greenhouse.

Open your map, navigate to the Hogwarts Map, select The Library Annex, and finally, the Greenhouses Floo Flame. Talk to Professor Garlick, and she’ll teach you the Flipendo spells after you complete the associated mini-game.
