Hogwarts Legacy The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom is one of the cutest quests in the video game published by Warner Bros. Games because it introduces a new feature that allows you to rescue beasts from Ranrok’s Poachers. Furthermore, The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom unlocks two Conjuration Spellcrafts and the Nab-Sack you may remember from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film directed by David Yates.

Using the Nab-Sack, you can capture various beasts scattered around the world. By bringing them to the Vivarium, the beasts will provide you with various crafting materials you can use to upgrade your gear or to apply Traits. Last but not least, you’ll receive 260 XP for finishing this quest and unlocking the Loom for Improvement achievement/trophy. The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom story quest, becomes available after you complete The Helm of Urtkot main quest and after you reach Level 15.

To start it, you’ll have to return to the Room or Requirement via the Floo Flame you unlocked when you first visited this Secret Room. So, open your Field Guide Map, switch to Hogwarts Map, then select Secret Rooms from the list of Floo Flames, followed by the Room or Requirement.

Upon reaching the room, you’ll find Deek and trigger a cutscene in which he’ll tell you that he’ll explain how to use the Nab-Sack to save the beasts hunted down by Poachers. When you are ready to start, approach Deek the House Elf and tell him you are ready to learn how to use the nab-sack.

Now, Deek will take you outside Hogwarts and tell you about the Poacher he worked for. Your next objective is to follow Deek to a Puffskein Den.

How to Rescue a Puffskein

The first creature you’ll learn how to capture is a Puffskein, which you may remember from the Beasts Class quest. To capture a Puffskein in Hogwarts Legacy, first, you’ll equip the Nab-Sack, unlocked when you find the first den.

To do so, press Right on your DPad, select the Nab-Sack Utility Spell, and replace one of your current Spells. Great job! Now look around the Den and find one Puffskein, then get close to it and mark it by pressing the Right Thumbstick. Cast the Nab-Sack Spell next, and get ready to press the buttons that appear on your screen.

Awesome! You just learned to capture beasts in Hogwarts Legacy and saved a Puffskein. Now return to Deek, and he’ll tell you that you should also try capturing a Jobberknoll, which is not as easy to catch as a Puffskein.

How to Rescue a Jobberknoll

The first thing you’ll have to do next is find the Jobberknoll Habitat, where Deek awaits. So, open your Field Guide Map, navigate to the World Map, and head southwest from your current location. The closest Floo Flame you should consider using is Mooncalf Den, but you can also fly to the meeting spot below.

After reaching the meeting spot, talk to Deek again, and he’ll tell you that, unlike Puffskeins, Jobberknolls are faster and tend to fly away when they see you. This means that you must use an additional Spell when trying to capture them.

The Spell you’ll want to use following Deek’s recommendation is Levioso, but you should know that Arresto Momentum also works. So, equip Levioso next, but don’t replace the Nab-Sack you equipped earlier.

Now, head towards the tree in the distance and target one of the birds flying around. Cast Levioso, followed by the Nab-Sack, and quickly press the buttons on the screen to capture a Jobberknoll.

After rescuing the Jobberknoll, it’s time to report back to Deek, who is waiting for you on the other side of the stone bridge nearby. The third creature Deek wants you to rescue as part of The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom is a Mooncalf.

How to Rescue a Mooncalf

Once again, Deek will wait for you close to the Mooncalves habitat or den, which happens to be near the Mooncalf Den Floo Flame on the map above. Fast-travel or fly to the location marked on your map and find Deek near the fast-travel point.

Talk to him, and he’ll tell you that, unlike all the beasts you have rescued, the Mooncalves spawn only during the night. Tell Deek that you’ll rescue one of them, then open your Field Guide Map and press the Right Thumbstick to fast-forward the time. Or wait. You’ll have to do this only if you reach the Den during the day. Now, look around by the tree nearby, and you should see some Mooncalves.

Target one of them, then cast Arresto Momentum or Levioso, followed by the Nab-Sack Spell. As you are about to see, the Mooncalves are pretty fast, so you’ll want to slow them down with the help of Levioso or Arresto Momentum. Remember to press the buttons on your screen to complete the associated QTE.

Awesome! Now, head back to Deek, and he’ll tell you it’s time to bring back the beasts you rescued to the Room of Requirement. To return to the Room of Requirement, open your Field Guide Map, switch to Hogwarts Map, then select the Secret Rooms from the list on the left side, followed by the Room of Requirement.

Upon arriving, Deek will help you set up a Vivarium, which is basically an extension for the Room of Requirement, used as a pen where you can release the beasts you rescue.

How to Release the Rescued Beasts Into the Vivarium

Head inside the Vivarium because it’s time to release the beasts and introduce them to their new home. To release them, follow these steps:

  • Press R1/RB to open the Nab-Sack
  • Move the cursor with the Right Thumbstick and place it over one of the beasts in the upper right corner
  • Press X/A to release the beast or add it to your Vivarium

Make sure you release all three beasts you have captured so far; then Deek will explain that if you run out of space in your Vivarium, you should visit Madam Peck, who owns the Brood and Peck Shop in Hogsmeade, to sell some of your beasts.

Next, Deek explains that if you take care of the beasts in the Vivarium, they’ll provide you with valuable crafting materials you can use to enhance your gear. To complete the next three objectives, you must collect a Jobberknoll Feather, Puffskein Fur, and Mooncalf Fur.

How To Collect a Jobberknoll Feather, Puffskein Fur and Mooncalf Fur

Collecting the crafting materials from the beasts in your Vivarium is an easy task, provided you know what you do. Start by equipping the Beast Petting Brush and the Best Feed Spells you have learned during the Beast Class main quest.

Now approach any of the three beasts in your Vivarium, and cast one of the spells (for example, Beast Petting Brush) followed by the next one (Beast Feed). Finally, approach the well-fed and brushed beast to collect the crafting material it provides.

At this point, you’ll want to make sure you feed and brush all three beasts in the Vivarium and collect the materials they provide before talking to Deek. With the required materials in your inventory, Deek will explain that you can use them to add traits or upgrade your gear. But for this, you’ll need an Enchanted Loom.

How To Conjure an Enchanted Loom

To conjure an Enchanted Loom in Hogwarts Legacy, you must return to the Room of Requirement via the door on the western side of the Vivarium. Once in the Room of Requirement, follow these easy steps to conjure an Enchanted Loom:

  1. Press Right on your DPad and equip the Conjuring Spell, replacing one of your current Spells.
  2. In the Conjuration Tab, select the Utility Icon
  3. Select the Enchanted Loom
  4. Place it in the Room of Requirement in an unobstructed area

Keep in mind that the Enchanted Loom requires 8 Moonstones. If you don’t have them, you’ll have to do some exploration and look for the Blue Crystals that are quite common, being found in all areas.

Hogwarts Legacy How To Use Enchanted Loom

After placing the Enchanted Loom, interact with it because it’s time to upgrade and add a trait to an item of clothing. To complete an upgrade, select one of the items in your inventory, press Square/X to view its upgrades, followed by X/A to upgrade it.

To apply a Trait, make sure that the item you select has a blue slot in the upper left corner. Press Triangle/Y to view the traits, choose one from the list on the left side, and press X/A to weave it.

It is worth knowing that most Traits are unlocked by completing Challenges; however, you can also find new traits in Bandit Camps. So, take your time exploring the world. Now, it’s time to return to Deek and tell him you have used the Enchanted Loom to complete the quest.

After finishing Hogwarts Legacy The Elf, the Nab-Sack, and the Loom quest, you should consider finding more beasts for your Vivarium while working on other quests.
