Hogwarts Legacy Poidsear Coast Merlin Trials are puzzles you must solve to achieve 100% completion in the southern region and get closer to unlocking the Merlin’s Beard! Trophy. Solving Merlin Trials can also help you increase the size of your inventory, allowing you to carry more items.
Before trying to solve Merlin Trial puzzles, you need to complete the Trials Of Merlin main quest and also get your hands on some Mallowsweet Leaves. The fastest way to obtain Mallowsweet Leaves is to grow them yourself in the Room of Requirement. However, you’ll first need to buy the Mallowsweet Seed Recipe from The Magic Neep shop in Hogsmeade.
Where To Find the Ten Poidsear Coast Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy
As you can see on the following Poidsear Coast map, the Merlin Trial altars, where you can start the puzzles, are scattered all over the area. There are ten puzzles in this area, and I’ll tell you how to complete them following the same order as the one on the map.
Merlin Trial #1: Close to the Tomb of Treachery Floo Flame
The first Poidsear Coast Merlin Trial altar is southwest of the Tomb Of Treachery Floo Flame in the northwestern corner of the region. Head southwest of the Floo Flame and interact with the altar to start the puzzle. Then, turn east to see four stones. To solve the puzzle, all you have to do is jump from stone to stone without touching the ground or the water.
Merlin Trial #2: North of Poidsear Castle
For the second Poidsear Coast Merlin Trial in Hogwarts Legacy, you must head north of Poidsear Castle, which has a Floo Flame you can use to fast-travel. Upon starting the trial, look east and cast Revelio to highlight three braziers on which you must use Confringo.
However, you have a short window in which you have to light the braziers, and the optimal way to do it is to start with the tallest one and end with the smallest. Also, you have to use Confringo on some vines to reveal one of the braziers, and you should make this a priority so you don’t waste time later. Make sure all three braziers are lighted at the same time to complete the trial.
Merlin Trial #3: Next to a Railroad
The third Poidsear Coast Merlin puzzle is next to a railroad southwest of Poidsear Castle. Interact with the altar, then look for three stones with diamond-shaped holes. If you use Revelio, the stones will get highlighted. One stone is southwest of the altar, another south, and the last at the bottom of the gap west. To solve the puzzle, you must find three groups of green fireflies and cast Lumos near each one to make them follow you to the stones. Note that a stone can’t hold more than one group of fireflies.
One group of fireflies is on the railroad north of the altar, and the other two groups are in the southeastern woods; they are hard to miss because of their green glow, as shown in the following image.
Merlin Trial #4: By the Water
The next Merlin Trial in Poidsear Coast can be solved by the water west of the previous altar, at the fourth location marked on our map. Start the trial and cast Revelio to see five stones highlighted around the altar. Destroy the stones using Confringo to solve the puzzle.
Merlin Trial #5: Next to Some Ruins
Another Poidsear Coast Trial altar is next to the ruins south of Poidsear Castle. Interact with the altar, then cast Revelio to find three platforms highlighted around the ruins.
One platform is on the other side of the wall, east of the altar. In the bushes north, close to the platform, you’ll find five balls on which you must use Accio. Hold the button you assigned for the Accio spell and guide the balls to the platform. Another platform is south of the altar, right in the ruins. The balls are really close, next to a barrel and on a wooden platform.
The last platform is southwest of the altar, on the other side of the ruins. The balls are northeast of the platform, around some caskets. After you use Accio to guide the remaining balls to the last platform, you complete the puzzle.
Merlin Trial #6: Close to the Edge of a Cliff
The sixth Merlin Trial is west of the previous altar, close to the edge of a cliff at the sixth location pinpointed on the map above. Once you start the trial, cast Revelio to spot three stones around the altar. These stones are made of two parts, and both pieces have symbols on them.
To solve the puzzle, you must use the Flipendo spell to flip the top parts of the stones so that the symbols on them match the ones on the bottom pieces. The way the top parts get flipped depends on your position toward them. You should practice with Flipendo on the stones until you get the hang of it, and then match the symbols to solve the puzzle.
Merlin Trial #7: Next to a Round Boulder
Upon completing the previous trial, head east to find the next Poidsear Coast Merlin Trial altar next to a round boulder. To solve the puzzle, you have to interact with the altar and then push the round boulder using Depulso to make it reach the hole southwest.
When you get to the gap, try to position the boulder as close as you can to the wooden platform, then spam Depulso to make the round stone reach the hole on the other side. It can be tricky, but you’ll surely succeed eventually and solve the seventh trial.
Merlin Trial #8: Next to a Red Flag
For the next Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trial, head to the ruins west of the Marunweem Bridge Floo Flame. Interact with the altar next to the red flag, then use Depulso to get the southern boulder into the hole east.
As you’re about to see, the hole is covered by some wooden boards. Use Confringo to clear the hole, then get the boulder inside to complete the trial.
Merlin Trial #9: Close to a Small Bandit Camp
The ninth Poidsear Coast puzzle can be solved north of the Marunweem Bridge Floo Flame, close to a Small Bandit Camp. First, interact with the altar, then cast Revelio to highlight the remains of 3 stone statues. To complete the trial, you must use the Reparo spell to repair the statues. The pieces of one statue are next to the altar, another is scattered southwest near some stone piles, and the last parts are on a high cliff north.
Merlin Trial #10: High on a Mountain
Finally, the tenth altar is in the ruins high on the mountain southwest of the Phoenix Mountain Cave Floo Flame. The puzzle can be solved by following the same logic you used on Merlin Trial #3, meaning you have to find three stones with diamond-shaped holes and three groups of green fireflies.
Use Revelio to highlight the stones and find them faster. Hence, one stone is next to the altar, another is behind the wall northeast, and the last is southeast, outside the ruins. As for the fireflies, one group is down the stairs southwest of the altar, another on the wooden platform northeast, and the last outside the ruins next to the stone southeast.
Use Lumos to guide the firefly groups to the stones, and the trial is completed.
