Marunweem Lake Ancient Magic Hotspots are Hogwarts Legacy side activities you can complete while exploring the southeastern lake area if you aim for 100% completion. By clearing the magic pools, you can also complete Challenges and unlock extra Ancient Magic Slots. Check your progress from the Exploration tab of the Challenges menu.
However, before going for the Ancient Magic Hotspots, you must complete the Percival Rackham’s Trial main quest. In the guide below, we’ll focus on the Hogwarts Legacy Marunweem Lake Ancient Magic Hotspot side activities and explain where to find them and how to complete them.
Where To Find the Two Marunweem Lake Magic Hotspots in Hogwarts Legacy
On the following Marunweem Lake map, we’ve marked the locations of the 2 Ancient Magic Hotspots; as you can see, they are close to each other and the central lake.
Like all the Ancient Magic Hotspots in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need to find some runes to clear the Marunweem Lake magic pools.
Ancient Magic Hotspot #1: Next to a Tombstone
The first Hogwarts Legacy Marunweem Lake Ancient Magic Hotspot is found on the region’s east side. The quickest path to the magic pool is to fast-travel to the Coastal Mine Floo Flame and head southwest. You’ll find the Hotspot next to a tombstone with a shield leaning on it at the said location.
To continue, interact with the magic pool and look toward the north to see the first magic rune. You can easily get the rune with the help of your flying Broom. Then get back to the magic pool and position yourself on the road west, facing the ruins.
You should see a gate and a load hanging from the ceiling above it. Cast Revelio to see a weak spot you can hit with a basic attack to drop the load. Now go in front of the gate, destroy the two crates to the right, and cast Depulso while aiming at the mechanism. The gate should now be opened, and you can pick up the second rune needed for the first Marunweem Lake Magic Hotspot.
For the third rune, turn toward the southwest from the previous gate and cast Reparo while aiming at the wooden boards on the ground. Then, get on your Broom, fly to the newly repaired wooden platform, and get the last rune to clear the pool of magic.
Ancient Magic Hotspot #2: Under a Tower
For the second Ancient Magic Hotspot in the Marunweem Lake region, you have to head to the Marunweem Bridge on the west side of the area. There is a Floo Flame you can use if you want to fast-travel directly at the bridge. The magic pool is under the tower on the southeastern end of the bridge.
Interact with the Hotspot, then get on your Broom and fly to the first magic rune on the wooden platform to the north. Then fly on the other side of the tower to reach a small locked gate leading inside the building. Here, you also have one of the two Marunweem Lake Landing Platforms on top of the tower.
You now have to pick the level 3 lock to head inside the tower and obtain the second rune. To do so, you’ll need the upgraded version of Alohomora, learned during The Man Behind The Moons side quest.
Finally, the third rune is on a small boat in the water west of the tower, and you can get to it by flying on your Broom one more time. After you pick up the last rune, the second magic pool is complete.
