Wand Mastery is a combat-focused Hogwarts Legacy main quest in which you’ll face one of the three antagonists in the video game developed by Avalanche Software. Although a relatively short quest, Wand Mastery tests your combat skills and everything you have learned at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
For completing the Hogwarts Legacy Wand Mastery quest, you’ll earn 300 XP, provided you successfully defeat Victor Rookwood. Unlike Theophilus Harlow, whom you have faced during Harlow’s Last Stand Relationship Quest, Victor Rookwood is more resilient, and while fighting him, you’ll also have to deal with his Ashwinders.
Where to Find Gerbold Ollivander
To be able to duel Victor Rookwood, you’ll need to play the Wand Mastery quest, unlocked after finishing San Bakar’s Trial and reaching at least Level 24. During the Wand Mastery, your first objective is to visit Gerbold Ollivander and ask him to craft the unique wand that will get you to the final repository. The wand in question is crafted using the 4 Pensieve Artefacts you have collected by completing the four Keeper Trials.
To find Gerbold Ollivander, you’ll need to visit Hogsmeade, so open your Field Guide Map, followed by the Hogsmeade Map. Now travel to the South Hogsmeade Floo Flame, then visit Ollivander’s Shop marked below. You most likely remember the shop because you visited it during the Welcome To Hogsmeade quest.
Upon entering the shop, talk to Gerbold Ollivander, and he’ll tell you that he received the letter from Professor Fig regarding the wand he needs to craft. After Ollivander gives you the wand, as you exit the shop, you’ll be ambushed by Victor Rookwood. During the dialogue, there is one specific line that will shed light on what happened to Anne.
While trying to convince you to work with him, Victor will tell you that he always said, “children should be seen and not heard.”
If you played Sebastian’s questline, you might remember he heard the same quote the night Anne was cursed, which means that Goblins have nothing to do with Anne’s curse. It was Victor who cursed her. Now that you know this, it’s time to deal with Victor Rookwood, and the fight will occur inside an arena.
How To Defeat Victor Rookwood In Wand Mastery
Since Victor Rookwood is a Hogwarts Legacy boss, he is more resilient than the mobs you have fought so far; however, there is an easy way to deal with him. The fight has two stages, and during the first stage, you’ll need to deal with Rookwood’s lot. These are regular Ashwinders you have fought before, so make sure you remove their colored shields by casting Spells of the same color. If you want to make fun of them, consider casting Imperio (unlocked by completing In the Shadow of Time Side Quest) on one of the Ashwinder Executioners. They are bigger than other Ashwinders, and they cast electricity Spells.
By casting Imperio on an Ashwinder Executioner, he’ll attack your opponents, dealing massive damage to them. After you deal with Viktor’s lot, he’ll spawn nearby, and a wand duel starts. This QTE is fairly accessible because all you need to do is tap X/A as fast as possible.
When the second phase starts, if you want to make fun of your enemies, cast Imperio on Victor, and he’ll deal with his lackeys. Alternatively, you can cast Avada Kedavra unlocked by completing the In the Shadow of the Relic Side Quest to end the second phase before it even starts. If you don’t want to use any of the Unforgivable Curses, it’s worth knowing that Victor Rookwood’s shield can be removed only by casting Stupefy (parry his attacks).
Once you do that, cast your most powerful spells on him (Bombarda, Confringo, Levioso, Depulso, or Flipendo). As said, the fight against Victor Rookwood is accessible and can also be funny. After you defeat him, it’s time to deal with the Ranrok, so get ready to start the Final Repository main quest. At this point, you’ll want to equip your best gear and complete all remaining side-quests to increase your character’s level.
