Hogwarts Legacy South Hogwarts Region Merlin Trial Solutions

South Hogwarts Region Merlin Trials are little puzzles you must solve in Hogwarts Legacy if you want to achieve 100% completion in this area and get closer to unlocking Merlin’s Beard! Trophy/Achievement. The more Merlin Trial puzzles you solve, the more Challenges you complete, increasing the size of your inventory. However, to start completing these Trials, you must finish the Trials Of Merlin main quest.

In the quest, you learn that Mallowsweet Leaves are essential to start a Trial and can be found in the open world or grown at a potting table in the Room of Requirement. Of course, you must first procure the Mallowsweet Seed Recipe from The Magic Neep in Hogsmeade.

Where To Find All South Hogwarts Region Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy

The Merlin Trials are scattered all over the South Hogwarts Region, and to find all of them faster, I have marked their locations on the following map.

Merlin Trial #1: Unlocked as Part of the Trials of Merlin Main Quest

The first South Hogwarts Region Merlin puzzle can be solved while completing the Trials Of Merlin main quest. In this quest, you’ll meet Nora Treadwell in the Lower Hogsfield hamlet, and she will teach about Merlin Trials. Then, you’ll solve the first Trial puzzle and unlock the rest scattered throughout The Highlands.

Merlin Trial #2: West of Lower Hogsfield

For the second Merlin Trial, you must go not too far west of Lower Hogsfield. When you reach the spot, interact with the altar to start the Trial, but make sure you have Mallowsweet Leaves, or else it won’t work.

Now, look around for three platforms with four holes in each one. Use Revelio to highlight the platforms in blue and be able to see them through objects. One platform is west of the altar (close), another southeast, and the last northeast. Near each platform, you can find four balls, which you can also highlight blue by casting Revelio.

Then you must use Accio, learned while completing Charms Class main quest, to get the balls in the platform’s holes. Make sure you hold the button you have assigned to Accio to steer the balls to the holes. Do this for all three platforms, and you complete the Trial.

Merlin Trial #3: Between Hogwarts Castle and Lower Hogsfield

The next Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts Region is located between Hogwarts Castle and Lower Hogsfield, at the third location marked on the map above. Upon starting the Trial, head southwest of the altar to find a big boulder, which you must push to the southeast slope using basic attacks or, even better, Depulso, which you learn after completing Professor Sharp’s Assignment 1. Steer the boulder to the hole at the base of the slope to complete the Trial.

Merlin Trial #4: Close to the Central Hogwarts Valley Floo Flame

The fourth is found on the south side of the region, close to the Central Hogwarts Valley Floo Flame. Check our map for the exact location. Once you find the altar and start the Trial, look around for the five rocks with green carvings on them. Then, use Confringo to destroy the rocks and solve the puzzle. You learn the Confringo spell during the In the Shadow of the Undercroft main quest.

Merlin Trial #5: On the Edge of a Cliff

Another Trial is south of Aranshire, the small hamlet on the east side of the area. Head there, and you’ll find the altar on the edge of a cliff. This puzzle follows the same logic as Merlin Trial #2, so you must first find three platforms. One is on a cliff northwest of the altar, another east, and the last south. All platforms can be seen from the altar.

Now, go to the east platform and use Revelio to highlight the four balls nearby. Steer the balls to the platform using Accio. Next, go to the platform northwest of the altar and look for the balls behind the stone fence northeast of the platform. You know the drill: use Accio to get the balls to the platform.

Then, go to the last platform and head northwest of it to find the last balls. Use Revelio to highlight the balls if needed. Bring the last set of balls to the remaining platform to complete the Trial.

Merlin Trial #6: By the Railroad

Now, head directly west of the previous altar to find the next Hogwarts Legacy Merlin Trial by the railroad not far away. This time, you have to find three stones with diamond-shaped holes and bring to each one a group of fireflies.

To begin, cast Lumos and go near the fireflies beside the altar. Then, lead them to the stone southwest. Then proceed west until you reach the cliff’s edge and look down to see the next group of fireflies and the stone where you must bring them.

Now go north of the previous stone to find more fireflies, then get on your Broom and gain some altitude. Turn to the southeast to see the last stone on the edge of a cliff. Bring the last group of fireflies to this stone to solve the puzzle.

Merlin Trial #7: By the Water

The seventh Hogwarts Legacy Trial is by the water southwest of the previous puzzle you solved. Start the Trial and look above you to the northeastern cliff, and you should see a boulder. Go behind the said boulder and use Depulso to push it into the hole to the south.

Merlin Trial #8: Near the Train Station

Head to the train station at the eighth location pinpointed on our map to start the next Merlin Trial in the South Hogwarts Region. The altar is located east of the station, and to complete this Trial, you have to light three torches. One torch is southwest of the altar, another west, and the last north.

To solve the puzzle, use Confringo to light the torches, but make sure you start with the tallest and finish with the shortest. As such, start with the one west, then the one southwest, and finally the one north.

Merlin Trial #9: Near a Dock

Upon finishing up Trial #8, make your way west to the ninth location on the map above. Once in the right spot, you’ll find the altar for the next Merlin Puzzle near a dock. Now start the Trial and turn your attention to the northern stones. For this puzzle, you must simply jump from one stone to another, starting from left to right, as shown in the next screenshot. Make sure you don’t touch the ground.

Merlin Trial #10: Between the River and the Railroad

For the tenth Trial, you must head northeast of the previous puzzle. This Trial’s altar is on the cliff between the river and the railroad. To complete this Trial, you have to destroy the nine balls nearby. You can use normal attacks. Each ball is on top of a small pillar, and you can spot them a lot easier if you use Revelio.

Merlin Trial #11: On the Shore

Now go directly south from Trial #10 to find the next altar near the water, on the shore. Check our map for the exact location. To solve this puzzle, you must do the same as you did for Trial #6 and bring the three groups of fireflies to the three stones with diamond-shaped holes.

One of the stones is found east of the altar, another northwest, and the last behind the rock to the west. Each stone has a group of fireflies close to it, so we suggest you get on your Broom and gain some altitude to spot them all easily.

Merlin Trial #12: West of Hogwarts Castle

The twelfth Trial of Merlin is found directly west of Hogwarts Castle, at the edge of the map. This time, you must get to the boulder on the cliff northeast of the altar. Then, use Depulso to push the boulder into the hole to the north.

Merlin Trial #13: Near a River

The altar for the next South Region Merlin Trial is located near a river southeast of the previous puzzle. This puzzle is solved following the same logic as with Trials #6 and #11. Get on your Broom and float over the southeastern bridge to see the three stones and groups of fireflies required to complete this Trial, like in the following image.

Merlin Trial #14: Near a Gap

For the fourteenth Trial, you have to head southeast of the previous puzzle. You’ll find the altar near a gap when you reach the fourteenth location on our map. To complete this Trial, you must use Confringo to destroy the five nearby rocks with green carvings.

Merlin Trial #15: Between Some Trees

The last South Hogwarts Trial is found southeast of Aranshire. To find the altar, start from Aranshire and fly high on your Broom, sticking to the edge of the map. The altar should appear between the trees under you, so keep your eyes peeled. Now start the Trial, then look for a boulder near a fountain in some ruins south of the altar.

To solve the puzzle, use the spells Accio and Depulso to steer the boulder into the hole at the base of the slope to the northeast.
